So I have you on the record that the main thing you want him to improve on is his 3 point shooting, BUT you don't want him to have more shot opportunities overall? I just want that on the record... So by improvement you mean 3-4 more points per game next year? As far as his assisting, you gotta agree that: 1. Assisting is a two way street... Lin likes to give it to the big man and Asik has to flush it down. No Turkish ballad moves, if you get my drift. Asik has been much better at that recently.... 2. McHale plays Harden in the PG role half the time, so Harden gets a lot of assist opportunities. Lin is not averaging 10 assists a game for the same reason Chalmers isn't because of Lebron. CP3 averages 3 more assists because only he plays the PG role when he is on the court. In other words when you say you want Lin to improve, you really mean you want him to improve within the parameters and personell (coaches + players) of THIS SYSTEM. I think people need to understand that and it needs to be explicitly stated as such.
i think OP has a legitimate reason to guess who might have better chance to be our starting pg. lin hasn't established anything which forces our coaches not to judge him qt by qt. on the other hand, if lin is what alot fans here believe, does it really matter who is going to start? i don't see much difference on who starts. i don't believe other two will be a great pg.
The only upgrades at the PG position I would consider are Curry, Paul, Westbrook, Irving Parker and maybe Jarret Jack (if he could be had for $4-5M per) None of those five guys are coming to Houston but Jack is attainable through free agency this season with his downside being that he's 29, isn't a proven starting PG and sometimes goes into hero mode. I would say no to Rondo because I have a very contrary opinion on him, I think he would be a downgrade. If you disagree than you haven't watched Rondo-ball in Boston or are unfamiliar with his locker room issues. I would say no to Wall because he's got a broken jumper. I would say no to Rubio because he's an even more unproven commodity than Lin and again, broken jumper. I would say no to all the other PGs because they would be, at best, a lateral move.
