You expect to win by putting a 7-year-old kid in an NBA game?

If Yao Ming was on the San Diego Rockets in the 60s, the name of Wilt Chamberlain would never have been heard of.

I think he'd end up crying because all the other players -- on both teams -- would be pointing and laughing at his big-ass shorts:

I think the better question would be:

If Tmac was on the 96 Rockets, would we have beaten the Supersonics?

I think so, Sherell Ford sucked on defense. He would have been too slow to guard McGrady. Hershey Hawkins is too short. McGrady would have been better than Clyde.

Stupid thread. we should get Clyde as a third pick in 1983 draft over Rodney McCray and Hakeem would win more championship rings...

there's plenty of hypothetical questions about the early 80s. That's one.

The other is what if Sampson didn't get hurt.

And for the 1,000,000,000,000,000 time, He wasn't like Tracy at all.

    #1 His teammates loved him.

    http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=112008
    Dream loved Ralph:

"Playing with Ralph was a lot of fun," Olajuwon said in an e-mail from Amman, Jordan. "He never showed me any jealousy over the position. We were a great complement to each other's game, and I believe we were way ahead of our time. I blocked so many shots because I was able to come from the weak side and behind Ralph. He gave me opportunities for tip-in dunks with his play around the rim. Those were fun years, and I only wish he would not have had the knee injuries. It was sad to see him not reach all of his potential."

#2 it wasn't because of nagging injuries. it was one injury that snowballed into many more. It was because somebody hit him in a GAME. he wasn't always brittle. he wasn't treated correctly. Yao would have never played for a whole year if this had happened to him.

What the Rockets also didn't know was the first crack in their foundation had appeared when Sampson was undercut while going for a rebound at Boston Garden on March 24. There was a sickening thud when his head cracked against the parquet floor. However, the real damage was done to his back and left hip.

    Big man hobbled

Sampson sat out for the first time in his career, missing three games and coming back with a limp. When he began to overcompensate for the pain in his hip, it led to the start of knee problems that would require three operations and cut short his career as an All-Star player. For the final six weeks of the regular season, Fitch closed practice to the media to keep a lid on the extent of the injury.

"It was hard thing to see," Fitch said. "A lot of days, he could barely run, and he couldn't do anything to stop Dream defensively."

"I was never the same from the time I went down in Boston," Sampson said. "It was like I couldn't play my game."

Why would anyone compare Ralph Sampson vs. T-mac?

Would the 86' rockets win with T-mac? Of course...why woulnd't they? T-mac would definitely be an upgrade over Rodney McCray or Mitch Wiggins. Huge upgrade.

How could that not make that team better? Or do you mean Put t-mac in instead of Ralph? That's stupid too - they don't even play the same position! They whole team make up would be changed.

I'm sorry but that fall in Boston didn't end Ralph's professional career. If a bad fall on your hip and back will end your career - you probably aren't very durable to begin with.

Too much small ball with McGrady in there. Rockets really got a lot of mileage out of Akeem and Ralph come to think of it. Jim Petersen was the only other big in the regular rotation. They put Robert Reid at PF?

Basically would you rather replace Jim Petersen with Ralph Sampson, or Rodney McCray/Lewis Lloyd with McGrady? Gotta go with Sampson on that one. That team was meant to be about the Twin Towers.

BAD premise for a thread, off of a bad benign comment.

    I want my vote back!

I read the title and voted prior to seeing the caveat. Hell no the Rockets do not win that series if you swap TMac and Sampson.
