[hypothetical] if JVG coached the 93-94 team, would Cassell play?

David Wesley, who played 33mpg in 71 games for the Rockets last year. Alston played 38mpg in 63 games last year. Bogans played 17 minutes a game for 54 games last year.

Or are you arguing that JVG would only play Head because he was the best available player on the roster? How horrible that a coach would simply play the best players he has.

Relevance? You're saying if there were better players available, Luther Head wouldn't have played as much?

Seriously, this is obviously going over some people's heads..no pun intended. ;) Luther got playing time last year due to injuries. Because of that, he showed and proved he could play, hence he kept getting minutes. In other words he got the OPPORTUNITY to showcase himself with meaningful minutes and earned minutes the rest of the year. Without the injuries, he would not have gotten that chance.

Again, I voted no. But you guys are being a bit over the top in trying to discount Luther. It's not like JL3 got the same treatment. Why is it so tough to believe that if a rookie proves himself to Van Gundy, he'd get a fair shake?

I really think Kill Bill has the skills to add something to the team, but he's screwed up and laid eggs nearly every time he's gotten on the court. Jeff isn't going to put up with his crap play. It's on him to translate what he can do in Europe and practice onto the court in real games.

Great Question and great picture of JVG.

Sam would have gotten about the same time that Jon Lucas III has gotten this season. That is this coach's biggest problem, imo. You've got to give the young guys some playn time THROUGHOUT the season because if you get an injury, your rookie will make too many mistakes to even begin to fill that spot.

Because JVG doesn't give rookies a chance to prove themselves. Head got a chance last year due to injuries. Novak and Vspan haven't gotten that chance this year.

i dont see why he wouldnt have been the primary backup. but sure, i guess everyone can guess what he would do and then bash him b/c your guess is purposely stacked against him. that seems fair

First 6 games of last season, we didn't have any injuries to our littles. Luther averaged 18.2 MPG. More than Cassell averaged his rookie season.

    Any other excuses?

What deserving rookie has ever not played under JVG?

V-Span and Novak are both 2nd round picks on one of the 6 or 7 best teams in the NBA. When they've been on the court, they've sucked. So no, they don't deserve playing time just because you'd like to believe they are the next great thing.

lets not forget that Cassell was critical in the Phoenix series too as a rookie.

V-Span: -9.9 rating this year. Worst on the team aside from Padgett (waived).

Head's rookie year: -2.1, pretty much in the middle, and much better than JL3's -7.1

I've attended my fair share of games, and watched Spanoulis get his opportunities and fumble them up. When McGrady was out in Nov/Dec, Jeff gave him 15-20 minutes in most games - he responded by getting double figures twice.

While he looks like he has the potential - Vassilis Spanoulis has not shown on the court that he's worthy of the minutes.

Manu was also a 2nd round pick and average 20 mins a game his rookie year, playing for a team better than the rockets are now. Seriously, talking to you JVG lovers is like talking to a brick wall.

So what? Manu is the exception, not the rule. Do you think that since Manu worked out, all 2nd round picks are good and should get playing time?

Again, name a deserving rookie in JVG's 10 year coaching history that hasn't played because he was a rookie.

Nice way of sneeking those in. No JVG and wife would never allow such a thing. JVG would've gone after a veteran guard to backup Kenny maybe World B. Free. :)

If anyone wonders what influenced me to make this thread:

    1. They played these NBA's Greatest Momments commercials during the game on NBA TV.
And the one where Dream kicks it out and Marv Albert goes 'Cassell for 3, YES!'
and the orchestra music plays on..

    2. This was during the Rockets vs Phoenix broadcast where the Phoenix PGs played slightly better than the Rockets PGs

check out Manu's PER and shooting percentage in his rookie season. Then look at VSPan's.

That should shut you up for at least 10 minutes

Of course he would, same as Luther played last year. He would have earned the pt.

    wrong,
its a disguised thread to praise our superheroes of the 90s. Plus Sam is coming back vs the Rockets next game, so thank him and give him a standing ovation.
cause he was a hero and he's still proving that the Rockets championship team was a team of superior talent human or non human.
