My real point was that Real have money to spend. I already said that Ajax had probably the best youth academy. Part of their supposed consideration of buying Beckham was access to markets in the Far East, where he is popular. Perhaps this kid would give them a foot in the door in the US. Ronaldo came to PSV Eindhoven first, and really made his name at Barca, before moving to Inter.
Freddy seems to be the real deal. He has a huge following in the US amongst MLS fans, and he is the darling of the VA DC area youth soccer programs. you can check Bigsoccer. there is always Freddy talk over there. there has been speculation about his actual age, but its all really crap if you concider that even if he is a year older he is still consistantly one of the best U-17 players in whatever tourney he is in. this kid also LOVES the USA and he desperately wants to play for the US, and in MLS. the contract he was offered was not 6 figures, it was 800,000. but whatever its a decent amount for an eighth grader. Hell I thought I was the man cus I was playing for the HS JV team in 8th Grade, and this kid is getting huge money offers from across the pond. he is from Ghana BTW. his Brother is also quite good. I think he plays for DC Uniteds development level team, and he dreams of playing for Ghana in the WC, or at least in WC qualifiers. speculation is that he will sign with MLS and likely get to spend a few years abroad at one of the big firms and to all of you out there. CHECK OUT MLS!! its good, and it is here in your country. Support your domestic league! and to you idiots who are totally anti soccer. you gota be nuts. you go tailgate, and get rowdie in the stands for hours. never sit down and never stop drinking. does it mater if yo are watching football or soccer. its fun no matter what. and soccer does not have nearly as much stoppage in action. be open minded. give it a try
"And because we have soccer highlights, the sheer pointlessness of a zero-zero tie." - Josh Charles as Dan Rydell
um, yeah, I am not feeling so confident now. You see, I was taking a break from filling out my companies quarterly payroll and unemployment tax statements. I have already sent them, and well I guess I am pretty much screwed if I messed up.
I would rather be famous and have status in the US, the best country in the world. Rather then spread out fame. To tell you the truth, Michael Vick will be a much bigger star in the US than say Ronaldo or Zidane. Besides, Football is the greatest sport in the world. The US kind. Sounds like this kid could be a Michael Vick type of player. Too bad about the whole soccer thing.
This kid was in SI, and apparently he is a natural...at everything. In his first organized basketball game, he scored 28 points. On his first tee shot ever, he ripped a 200-300(Not sure) foot drive and one-putted for a birdie. Very, very interesting...He could potentially make soccer here like it is around the world.
You have to be kidding me, I would love to be the next Pele instead of the next Montana, but maybe US just doesn't understand the passion of soccer. Any sport that has a war started over it is the sh*t, not that I think wars are good or anything........
Basketball is easier to play, and is gaining on soccer more and more. Even if Soccer is overtaking America, Basketball is starting to take over the world.
Meh. I respect soccer, but am not a fan of it. US Football and Basketball are much more exciting to me. Hope things work out for this kid. He's going to have a hell of a ride ahead of him.
But Nii would end up scoring goals for Cheltenham Town in 9 consecutive games in the end of the 2006/7 season to help secure Cheltenham promotion to the first division, before hanging up his cleats. Trust me, you're wrong on both counts. Basketball isn't easier to play, and I don't see many signs of basketball taking over the world.
the sad thing about this is the MAN united is rumored to be keeping a eye out on him... He'll probably be lured away from the states to play in the premier league or in spain, italy, ect... It's reported that Sir Alex Ferguson (man united) contacted Adu's parents....
You don't see signs that basketball is taking over the world???? What world are you living on? Is it the same world where the US was just defeated in the WBCs? Is it the same world where the NBA is becoming more and more international? Also, basketball is easier to play...all you need is a ball, a basket, and 2 guys.
not to take soccer's side on more things than i have to or to say that basketball isn't becoming huge, but i would say soccer is much easier to set up. you need a ball and a surface to kick it on (which pretty much includes any piece of land available) and then you can just make up imaginary goal markings. basketball requires the ball and a hoop which can't just be imagined or made from random objects (you either have to have one or know somewhere you can play on). now i would say soccer is the easier sport to play at a rudimentary level in that you just kick the ball around. basketball requires dribbling and shooting (which are far harder to develop at a basic level than kick the ball around, hell we all know how to kick a ball). now at the highest levels, obviously both sports require high levels of ability that aren't easy to develop. basically, basketball rules, soccer drools.
I'm living in the world where the majority of people didn't even know that the WBCs were taking place. Are there any countries other than the US where basketball is more popular than football?
basketbal isn't easier to play, i life in a country where there aren't much baskets around. Here almost nobody plays basketbal. And everybody plays soccer. It wil take a while before basketbal is more popular then soccer. basketbal is getting more popular around here, but stil there is no comparisment between soccer and basketbal. example My village: 1 basketbal team with 3 team, and i started the club 2 soccer clubs both with about 30 team of 15 players that is a huge differents
