    I know people who know Pagurek. His rep is a no-nonsense guy who gets things done. He's dedicated to his work and folks say he does it with integrity. Not a suck-up or a constant practitioner of office politics, but a good team lead and organizer. If we didn't already have a huge amount of evidence that emergency management has been broken, this should be as big a deal outside the disaster community as it is inside.

    And really, that DHS "spokesperson" is a joke. The whole purpose is to deploy quickly to try and save lives. I'm OK if a few bucks are spent as efficiently as possible. Again, one of the problems of putting within-borders disasters in a department focused on outside the borders.
