There were a few reports from The Woodlands already (including two of my own). I took a brief walk around but I think with the exception of trees knocked down and limbs and branches everywhere there was little damage. The big tree in my backyard pulled down tow others before it hit the back fence. A tree in front of my house went down but I am hoping I can save that one.

Mostly wind and rain right now, but definitely the worst has passed...

Posted in the other thread, but I'll repost here because it applies:

    Jasper

I woke up about 3 to some pretty strong winds. About 6 things really started to pick up here, with the eyewall moving close. we were getting winds estimated between 80-90 mph with gusts over 110. I watched a 50 ft high pine fall in the back yard at my parents, about 15 minutes later we watched an Oak fall on the neighbors roof. Thinks settled down for about an hour and a half as the eye moved through. things picked up again and we watched the 3rd tree fall. This one was a huge oak in the lot next door. Everything finally stopped about noon, but we are without power but I do have the slowest dialup conection known to man available. I am staying in my parents house with 27 other people. Some of them are from Orange and we have not heard anything about that area. If anyone can give me some reports on the Orange area and also the Sour Lake or south Hardin county area I would greatly appreciate it. We are getting lots of reports about Jasper county but we already have first hand knowledge of that area.

KAMU channel 4 in College Station has a camera on Rudder Tower and is using one of their streamers as a web cam for the weekend:

    http://winstream.kamu.tamu.edu/kamu-tv

The audio with it is National Public Radio.

    Things are clear here though.

I was in Sugar Land there was some strong gusts of wind but other than that it was pretty calm. Glad the hurricane didn't hit us.

In between the Med Center and Reliant Park:
Power down from 2:45 until 10 am, internet/cable down until 1:40 pm, water running w/o loss. Zero flooding, minimal wind debris (leaves, small branches).

Walked through the Med Center to retrieve our cars from the Park Plaza parking garage, everything looked similarly secure along Main St.

Be aware that no gas stations are expected to offer fuel for a couple of days still and police at the moment are not carrying fuel for people stranded. If another traffic crush happens, you're taking a risk.

Power was knocked out at 3am this morning. Just came back on 15 minutes ago. I'm located off of 290/Huffmeister. Didn't expect it to come back up so quick. It fluctuates from sunny to cloudy. We still have a little wind but everything seems to be fine.

Dallas: Winds are now starting to pick up and some ominous clouds are moving in. I don't expect any real trouble here though.

My wife tells me that the power went out at my parents' in the Greenspoint area, and they've had some wind but very little rain. My mother's complaining she'll have to water the lawn after all.

The power at my house in the Third Ward is still on but my wife has not yet seen it first-hand.

North Dallas : Lots of cloud cover, winds are kicking up to around 25-35 mph gusts, but no rain. We're getting the scrapes off the western side of Rita apparently. I went to work, but came back after a few hours when I saw the weather. It doesn't look too bad, though - just wind and cloud cover right now.

Barely any rain or wind in my area. Lights flickered one time this afternoon and that was it. Nothing at all after that.

I'm at Briar Forest and Woodland Park Dr (West Houston). Power went out this morning at around 8:00 am, after a small tree limb fell on a power line in my next door neighbors backyard. Sparks flew everywhere and scared the crap out of us. Power just came back on about 5 minutes ago, what a great feeling! :D

Sunny skies, nice breeze. Really nice conditions right now.

Eastern Texas; took a serious hit, 80-100mph gusts, a tree on the roof and another on the back porch. Many down trees, two giant pines narrowly missed the house. One of the most horrendous experiences of my life. Hour after hour with no lights waiting for the next tree to fall. We have had a break late this evening. Friends helped us saw our way out of our drive, cut up the oak on our house, and put a tarp on the holes in the roof. You guys in Houston/Galveston came out, but we didn't. A nightmare and some places like Jasper got hit even worse. Lake Livingston had a 115 mph gust. I also heard that the dam is about to break. We didn't get the national news coverage, but it is a real disaster in Eastern Texas and Western Louisana.

We lost power at 8 Fri night...adn didnt get it back until 6pm Sat.
A tree down the street uprooted and laid over on the power lines..shorting them out and blowing the transformers. You might have heard it referred to by the CH 11 reporter stationed in San Jac Mall parking lot...he talked about seeing blue flashes a few blocks away...that was us.

It wasnt that bad since my neighbor had a big generator and was willing to share...I could power my freezer, a refrigerator and a fan...

The winds got up to about 50-60MPH with constant rain over Fri night...a willow on the other side of my back fence lost a big limb...I spent the day cutting it up and getting it off my fence. The fence between me nad my other neighbor fell, not surprising since it was the last remaining old section of fence around my yard

Bad thing was...we sent my 12yr old girl with her grandparents to Livingston to ride it out in a safer place....they got more wind than we did. Lost several treetops on th farm...it is surrounded by large trees, but the house survived.

We might still lose water...Baytowns pumping startin got hit...we are running off of the emergency water in the tower, hopefully they will get the main supply online before we use it all up.

Very few stores open out here..McDs opened today...line for a half mile down Garth...

My cable is still out...my internet is down...Luckily, I managed to find a old modem and hooked it up to post this

TIME WARNER....GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND GET MY CABLE INTERNET BACK ONLINE!! I hate dialup!:mad:
