I guess the U.S. military didn't want to be accused of favoritism. They let Baghdad get looted, now New Orleans is being torn apart. Where is the military support? If you can't drive them in, fly them in by helicopter.
It's a catch 22, but they need to mobilize and form a plan. I'll cut them some slack. Otherwise you get the same thing you've got right now with the NOPD. All the criminals will be caught because they are that stupid to begin with. The people who comadered the 2 Mail trucks (Federal vehicle) will prob be looking at serious time.
This unbelievable- Thursday, September 01, 2005 7 people trapped in the Gallary Row apartments on Julia Street 11:41 am Name: Dave Gibbs Home: 713 822-0141 Email: wdgibbs01@aol.com Subject: My Hurricane Story -- Trapped Persons Story: There are 7 people trapped in the Gallary Row apartments at 448 Julia Street (corner of Julia and Magazine). They were attacked by armed gang who hijacked their truck and drove it through a locked gate in the parking garage. They are unable to leave the building due to the heavy presence of large, well-organized armed looters. They expect the building to be attacked at any moment. The trapped people are lightly armed (one shotgun and one pistol) but there are numerous entry points into the apartments. Currently the trapped people are holed up on the roof. Please send help ASAP. University hospital (on Perdido?), not to be confused with Tulane University hospital or Charity Hospital is still in need of an initial rescue effort. University hospital has apparently slipped through the system and has yet to receive assistance as rescue efforts have been directed elsewhere. The hospital is absolutely non-functional and patients are dying at an alarming rate. My father in law (Dr. Oscar Ballester a treating physician at this hospital who is in need of food, water, and insulin) is stable, but we are unaware how long this will hold, possibly less than 48 hours. Concentrated rescue efforts can produce results and directly save lives at this facility. Again, these efforts are clearly hampered by the lawlessness in the city. However, there has to be some attempt directed at this facility, as there has been none. Any report to the contrary of my posting is simply mis-communication and false. Again, we are talking about university hospital and not the others. Attempts to organize private rescue efforts, chartered helicopters, are hampered by FAA clearance issues and have thus far proven unsuccessful. If anyone has words of advice, recommendations, comments, or anything at all, please e-mail me at jld05@fsu.edu. Human resolve and spirit will ultimately prevail regardless of the this terrible time and the fate of those lost. This is unconditional--regardless of the contrary acts of those engaging in the horrible behavior that we all are witnessing. http://www.nola.com/weblogs/nola/index.ssf?/mtlogs/nola_nolaview/archives/2005_09.html
I've sent the link to this blog to the LA Red Cross with this message- EMERGENCY!!!!!! People in New Orleans are posting pleas for rescue with location details at the blog listed below. Please direct to the relevant agency. If anyone can think of other agencies to contact with this info, it might be helpful. The National Guard didn't seem to have an email contact other than for recruiters.
After seeing all of the devastaion and chaos, has there been a feel good story coming out yet like a baby found safe or anything like that?
This is surreal. I’m still in shock I think. If you believe in prayer I’d like you all to know that there are lot of people here and around the world who are praying for the people still in NO and those of you on the front lines in Houston and elsewhere who are directly dealing with the fallout of this and who will be dealing with the fallout for months if not years to come.
Well I can see from your viewpoint it may in fact be silly, but is it incorrect? I mean aren't most of our troops really there (if not on the ground in Iraq then stationed nearby)?
CNN Breaking News now reports: "New Orleans hospital halts patient evacuations after coming under sniper fire, a doctor who witnessed the incident says." Why?
You feel that most (ie. more than 50%) of our forces are in Iraq? Wow. We're naked and primed for an attack then, huh?
Sounds like the military is moving in finally. The word is that in Jefferson Parish and Orleans, FEMA has "bugged out." They haven't brought supplies in. THE REAL MILITARY IS NOW FLOWING IN. National Guard is being replaced before our eyes. Watch the feed. Word is that the Marines are at 1515 Poydras where our OC4s are. I think we're coming back online in force shortly. On another note: I've just been told that we're being monitored in Iraq! To all the troops there, from one soldier to another, we're hanging tough here and you hang tough too. No matter what you're hearing, we love you guys and want you to know that we know how hard you've got it. Stay strong! http://www.livejournal.com/users/interdictor
Adding extra questions isn't necessary little buddy.....a simple "sorry I was incorrect for posting that ArtV's post was incorrect" will reasonably suffice..
I had read earlier that 28,000 National Guardsmen were assigned to New Orleans. Can anyone tell me if that's true? Are they there yet? Is that enough soldiers?
I don't think that's true. I just heard on the news that 1400 National Guardsmen were being sent today, and 1,400 more tomorrow. Not sure how many they have currently though. If you watch the news though they are saying that they have the city under control and there are just a few isolated incidents. Listening to the national guard radio scan and reading that blog, it sounds very different from that.
