Thought I should dig up this letter by the 50 intelligence officials again. Here it is: Former IC Officers Public Statement (politico.com)

I'll paste below and bold some things I thought were notable. But, in general, what they are saying is that they don't know if the contents of the laptop are authentic or not, but that its release is consistent with a Russian disinformation opp in which they strategically release information (true or false) to impact the American election. I still don't see anything in their statement that needs retracting or that has been retreated from.

I'd point out, you don't need to be a Russian intelligence agency to strategically release politically damaging information about your opponent. This is textbook October Surprise. Not really any different from the "grab them by the p***y" video. It is perhaps a little controversial to go beyond pointing out that this is political opportunism and say Russians may be involved in harvesting it -- but as the letter points out, Russians were running an influence campaign on Giuliani, so some level of coordination between Russian intelligence and the Trump campaign is something to be careful of. And, while I haven't seen any proof since this letter that the Russians have been involved, neither have I seen that they haven't been. So I don't think the credibility of their letter is any better or worse today than it was when it was published.

Follow up on one observation. I understand the Republican gambit is to tie Hunter Biden to Joe Biden to try to pin some guilt by association, and there is no reason why Democrats should need to accept the association. But, I also think its interesting/sad how quick liberals are to pre-emptively crucify Hunter to avoid letting his stain touch Joe. Liberals will call him all kinds of names and concede all the worst things said about him so as not to be drawn into a position where they have to defend Hunter's actions and risk losing, thereby conceding somehow some political ground for Joe by the weird meta-logic of politics. And I think it's too bad because Hunter is probably not nearly the villain he's painted to be and thanks to the political terrain he gets slandered by both Democrats and Republicans.

And, no, I'm not going to defend him either.

Hunter has already admitted to some of the worst things said about him (cheated on his wife, drug abuse that lead to his discharge, hooked up with his widowed sister in law, etc...)

Yeah, I'm sure Republicans think he's done far worse (esp w/ the lobbyist angle), but he aint no angel to defend on moral character.

What? Wait.... he is a "registered" lobbyist?

That is a new one, I was used to everyone around Trump and Russia NOT registering as a lobbyist.

Did Hunter not get the memo or was he too busy losing laptops all over the world?

    "Liberals" ?

Why are you using that pejorative as if it's a large percentage of Liberals or even a significant number.

This is a really strange take, as if this is actually a liberal thing and not just some specific people, why do you feel the need to tie this to "liberals"? Whatever that is supposed to mean.

Even on here, there are only a handful of posters who defend him, so I have no idea why you used Liberals as a descriptor.

I don't think "liberals" is a pejorative. I'm sorry you took it that way. I mean by it, generally politically left-of-center but still mainstream people. Democrats and democrat-leaning. I'd include myself in that description.

And do you mean 'specific people' are defending Hunter Biden? Because my point was that nobody defends Hunter Biden. If someone is doing so, maybe they're on my ignore because I wasn't aware. I thought I was the most pro-Hunter person here.

I meant crucify but my point is the same I don't think you need to use labels and only a handful of people who are considered Liberals were crucifying Biden.

I don't understand what point you were making by using progressives or democrats at all.

Making private individual information public to damage someone is still a violation of privacy laws.

And what should "liberals" say then regarding Hunter Biden? Should they be defending him to not be political? Should they be quoting him and attending rallies where he speaks?

From everything I've heard about him he has some pretty serious problems. The man cheated on his wife with his dead brother's wife while he was also having sex with prostitutes. Cocaine is a hell of a drug and there is nothing to be admired about him. The most nice thing I can think of saying about is that he makes some pretty good art.

Why the Biden Laptop Matters Now
The New York Times rediscovers its seriousness in a serious time.

I’ve been wondering when our media, at least those with a long-term hope of authority, would begin clawing back from their Russia collusion disgrace. The answer turns out to be: “When Vladimir Putinstarts World War III in Ukraine.”

Russia and China are coming together now not because of oil and gas but because they have a common enemy, the democratic idea. I’m not being pious here. The only real threat either nuclear-armed regime faces is from its own people in a Tiananmen-style uprising. Russia is openly fascist, China is becoming so. A third giant power on the Eurasian continent, India, is at risk of evolving in the same direction.

This is our world. Overnight, we find ourselves in a full-scale economic war against a nuclear-armed petro-state, with the unspoken goal of regime change. Joe Biden, steeped in NATO and Cold War deterrence, has been handy in the moment but we are going to need a new foreign-policy elite, trained in new imperatives, for a new era.

So we come to the New York Times. The paper, which aspires to be nation’s and even the world’s “newspaper of record,” has chosen this moment to rectify its own record on the Hunter Biden laptop.

This is Bengazhi all over the GOP is full of cowards who point fingers and don't follow the rules.

Hillary sits for 13 hours of questioning Trump won't even sit, and tries to block everyone else, why? Because he is a crook.....if you supported Trump.

You have no credibility in anything political in this country.

    So **** right off!!!

**** DONALD TRUMP - may he die the traitorous ass that he is.......the sooner the better.

WOW -- what ShamFisher called a "conspiracy theory" only took about 2 days to be proven true!

The American liberal will believe anything the news tells them. We conservatives, capable of critical thinking, are truly a tier up.
