Couldn't find a thread on this.....wife and I binged through nearly the entire first season yesterday. I was very impressed all around, really well done show, anyone else watch?
Chick flick. You probably wouldnt have watched it if you werent watching it with your wife. I had to read the book in a feminist literature class at UT. (It was the only english open for registration in the time slot that I needed)
Its made for girls Unless you are super passionate about feminism or watching with your girl like OP then it really has nothing to offer
I kinda knew there'd be posts like the above. Also I knew there'd be people who would watch it just to fill in their male-bashing quota for their next meetup. Somewhere in between are the people who watch it like they would watch American Gods or GOT or Atlanta. Good shows that are well made, except for a meh season 7.
Never seen the show. I did have to study the novel in high school. I don't remember it being some crazy feminist book either. It touches on a lot of themes, religion, politics, totalitarianism, class-ism etc etc. I mean sure patriarchy and feminism are major themes, but it doesn't hit you over the head with some strong narrative. It is pretty open ended to the reader's own interpretation.
Watched with my wife. Not bad. I really thought the preposterous premise would make it unenjoyable to me, but it wasn't bad. I guess it is a testament to the world building of the showrunners that I wasn't constantly thinking about how this world could never have come to be. Looking forward to the 2nd season.
Some people here have extremely fragile masculinity where any thing that doesn't show their interests in only manly things to their brethren, they need to make a big show of rejecting it
Solid show although it is disturbing that the post-apocalyptic type setting of the story is a very real possibility in the next decade.
I liked it, very well written and acted. Liked the book too. I neither read nor watched either with a woman.
I watched it with a breast milk pumping woman, and the scene had the protagonist on the breast milk pump.......
Back in 90 (I only remember this b/c I read the book and watched the movie in HS); Natasha Richardson and Robert Duvall, and I remember it being not very good.
bump.... this show worth getting hulu for? any other decent hulu originals or should i get grab the dvds?
I thought the first season was very good, haven't seen the 2nd season yet but it heard it was strong as well....
