When Eisenberg's good...he's good: Squid and the Whale, Adventureland, etc... When he goes full Eisenberg, you get Lex Luthor.
Nah…the prodigy is much more playful like Mr Universe (vs awkward), and definitely looks more like him than Eisenberg. But I’m sure you’ve seen more Eisenberg movies than me (by a long shot, )
I've only watched the original Alien (1979), Aliens (1986), Alien 3 (1992) and Prometheus (2012). Should I watch all the others before the TV series? EDIT: lol, just watched the trailer for Alien 3 and it didn't look remotely familiar...just horrible.
You should unnwatch Alien 1,2 and 3... Watch Alien Earth and then go back and watch Alien 1,2 and 3...
Finally caught the 2nd premiere episode yesterday. Things I liked: World building - they clearly put some real money into this series. Everything looks pretty top notch Xenomorph - as Xerobull mentioned previously, I like that they are leaning more into the Alien than Aliens version of this. Which is why they set up the Lost Boys who will be necessary to stand up to the xenomorph. Should make for some good battles. Expansion of the players - previous movies were always only focused on the xenomorphs and what Weyland Yutani wanted to do with them. I like that there are other corporate interests being introduced now, which could make for some interesting tension Wendy - I think this actress has done a good job so far and since she is clearly going to be a focus throughout, they did a good job casting Fodder - I like it when we get a chance to really see the xenomorph just annihilate people, but sometimes that is hard without losing good characters. Little moments like that ridiculous party are a fun way to let the audience see the capability of the alien without losing anyone we really care about...in fact we are really kind of rooting for the xenomorph in that moment. Things I not-so-liked: Pacing - things are a little disjointed. I think in part because they are trying so hard to world build, so things jump around a lot and we are getting little character moments for everyone spread out over the episodes. Noah Hawley has done amazing work on previous series so I expect this to all come together eventually, but for now it makes it hard to get fully immersed. Tech continuity - this is always the hardest challenge with Alien properties. The original movies are decades old. All that tech looks old now, even though it was intended to be futuristic. So they have to strike a balance to being consistent with that but also being Sci-Fi. A lot of the aesthetic in the first two episodes does a pretty job of that. The cyborg dude and his arm seem to not be consistent with what we've seen in past properties. Not a big deal, but I noticed it. Chekov's...paper cutter blade? - Wendy breaks that paper cutter blade off and straps it to her back, looking for all the world to be a badass about to wreck shop...and then doesn't use it for either of the premiere episodes? I know the rest of the show still has to happen, but it felt like a bit of a tease. Overall, waaaaay more to like than dislike. I have absolute trust in Hawley and will be rapt at attention for the rest of the series.
Nah, 1 and 2 are the only ones you need. Maybe Prometheus. Blade Runner wouldn't hurt, either. There's no direct connection (yet) but tonally it's very similar- big corps, androids.
I hadn't watched any trailers about this show. Two episodes in - I like the other 'kids' being scared sh*tless with the specimens on the loose. Am liking the lead 'kid'. Her brother, not so much. More range from a potato than he shows so far.
I don't think the trillionaire guy has much range either. Unless he has another gear, I hope his role is very small going forward.
It's got potential and some interesting ideas, we'll see if it comes together. Very early in with two episodes, but I'm guessing at the plot twist when things get real for the characters and we'll really start to see the story and the MC start to develop.
They run to him every time they need money or approval to get somethings done on the Hybrids. The whole question revolves around .... has mankind done enough to make a dent against a full grown Xeno.....likely not. And off they go again shooting it into the Orbit.
I must admit the story of the other "specimens" is intriguing. I am kind of looking forward to seeing the non-Xenomorphs and what all they can do . .. . I hope they don't just kill them off quickly or off screen Rocket River
All the inter galactic bugs .....remind me of the first Jurassic Park film and Wayne Knight encounter with the Dilophosaurus. @Jontro
There was this one scene in the last episode where they were navigating the ship and the shots alluded to that the alien was in a shaft stalking the brother and sister. They stopped in a long corridor and we're just talking. You could clearly see all the way down the corridor during these shots. I thought it would have been a nice touch if they barely showed the alien way off in the distance basically stalking them quietly. But, they didn't do that. I was looking for it almost expecting it in those shots versus the alien hanging back. I guess the other side of that is maybe in such a scenario the alien would rush them and take them out. However, given how the episode ended with the brother snatched, it appears the alien had other plans for him. The alien either moves at ultra slow speeds upright on two legs or very fast speeds on all fours. There doesn't seem to be much in between given when it walks upright, ie not a speed walker. Also, I believe my research turned up the events here happen 10 years before the events of "Alien". Have no idea where they would have found a facehugger or three to experiment on? That's a hole in the plot imo.
