Best episode so far. Really changed my perspective of the character as well.

Zaveri looks majorly stressed, should not have embarked on a mission when her priorities were other ones.

Curious why Noah Hawley didn’t use this episode earlier. It’s a hook.

What really did they achieve by doing this out of order? vs hooking the audience early.

I guess maybe a flashback like this allows time sequences to go by fast. Maybe had we seen this earlier it would have seemed too fast? Ep05 seems to be over the course of 17 days.

Not to mention the stupidity of the boy genius to be caught on 4K conspiring to sabotage.

Opening with E5 would have raised expectations and made the other four episodes more difficult for me to watch. Now the pressure is on to finish up strong.

I think if they showed this one earlier
The bar would have been too high for the rest
(plus the end would not have made sense)

    As I expected
Eyeball and Xenomorph ain't gonna like each other.
Xeno don't even have eyes for it to infiltrate
I was curious though . . .do you think Eyeball is acid-proof?
    The bugs were disgusting
They have so many defenses it's crazy (the airborne death spores?)
    No containment or anything

    There was so much dumb
    Doctor not quarantining was crazy
The Scientist even staying in there with him was dumb

Are you saying E1 and 2 were difficult for you to watch?

I’m confident in Hawley, just surprised he didn’t set the hook more, to get us through 3 and 4.

I didn’t say “opening with E5”. If there’s no flashbacks, E1 is still first. More like 1, 5, 2. And you can still withhold some reveals (like boy genius being behind the sabotage) as mystery to be investigated.

Did you feel any mystery about what happened to the crew? This thread certainly didn’t discuss it, largely bc E2 had a lot of Xenomorph action to discuss.

Everyone liked E1 and 2. It’s 3 and 4 ppl seem to not like.

I’m confident in Hawley, just surprised he didn’t set the hook more, to get us through 3 and 4.

If you don’t jump around in time, everything *but* the ending of E5 would come sooner. The ending was present, vs the rest being over a course of 17 days. Hawley could also still keep investigation reveals for later (like mysteries do), wrt learning the boy genius was behind the sabotage, and maybe withholding what eyebro did. Remember in E2 (I think), Morrow did that long download of data. I really thought they’d spend time telling the story from that data. instead, in E5 he downloads a different set of data to discover who.

    In theory.
Those bugs should not be contained - They should have shown up by now.

Yeah, that whole crash site is contaminated with all the blood-suckers that left the apprentice’s body. Will we see the Prodigy citizens getting infected?

There are also those fully-gorged ones loose who feasted on the two rescue crew that Morrow tied up.

E1 and 2 were not difficult for me at all because I'm a sci-fi addict. I also usually dislike flashbacks, but E5 overcame that by being on a much higher level than earlier episodes.

Saving the opening flashback all the way until E5 has me totally locked into the show, anticipating a strong finishing run. That was a stroke of genius by Hawley. Eps 6-8 have a tough act to follow but I'm expecting the best.

Eyeball creature continues to not disapoint. I loved the scene where it took over the engineer and tried to bite the Xenomorph.

Also really loved when it tried to warn Chibuzo that the blood ticks were getting loose. That is a pretty damn intelligent eyeball monster with high level reasoning skills - primate level at least.

They keep teasing the venus flytrap plant monster without any real payoff so far. I expect on a slow burn like that when we finally see it in action it's going to be something really gruesome.

They've abandonded 4k and LCD's in the future and have reverted to the superior technology of 480i on 10" CRT's.

How much of people loving the last episode had to do with the fact that it had no robo-kids or mopey brother and Kid Kavalier was only in it for like 6 seconds?

I expected the Sheep to go haywire and speak gibberish and attack the glass. For an Offensive rebound.

It has to introduce us to all 5 companies, we have Prodigy and W/Yutani and prior movies always had Weyland characs.....now we have Yutani.

Outside of how stupid the character's actions were, EP5 was my favorite so far mainly because there's so much to unpack but really has me looking forward the back half of the season.....

    Great episode. Team eyeguy!

How dumb and unprofessional are the two docs for not at least putting on surgical gear and masks.

If hanging chrysalis does fly, would be really cool if eyebro takes it over!

Finally caught up on this show. Man, I'm loving it more and more. I will say, for the most part I agree that it didn't do much to move this episode later in the season. The only real thing it accomplished was that it completely reframed the eyeball monster. Everything we had seen previously (other than Kirsh saying it was clearly highly intelligent) seemed to suggest it was just another gruesome parasite that was just itching to take over any host it could find. Now there is reason to believe it would side with humans. If we knew that in episode 4, that moment when the sheep stands on its back two legs and just stares at Kirsh wouldn't have been nearly as creepy.

But overall I'm enjoying it. My only complaint about this last episode was how sometimes the xenomorphs use their incredible stealth to sneak up and kill someone before they even know they are in danger, and sometimes they do it just to have the cool reveal and then let the person run away, which wouldn't really make sense for a predator of that level of skill. I suppose it could just be toying with its prey but there wouldn't be much reason to do that in the scenario with the XO. I get it, it creates cool moments, but sometimes (like ep 5) feels kind of silly.

As for the stupidity of the crew, it didn't bother me too much. Yutani had to crew that ship up with people that were willing to abandon their entire life for whatever amount of money they get from those shares. That has to be a pretty small volunteer pool. Morrow at least seems highly competent. The main engineer seemed highly competent at his job. The science officer decidedly not. Most others we never really see but clearly they were not informed of the level of danger these specimens would pose, based on how poorly the XO reacts to everything going to ****.

What was the deal with Teng? He's got all this weird mystery to him and the perving thing made it seem like there was either going to be some strange reveal about him, or we were going to get a very satisfying come-uppance type death. Instead all he does is help Morrow figure out the sabateur and then get killed more or less off-screen. Not even a shot of his mangled body. Seemed odd.

I'm all in on this show, though. I've loved just about all of it and I hope it's doing well for FX because I want to see more seasons after this.
