For those unfamiliar with Hulu.com, it's video streaming site that provides previously aired content to it's viewers over the internet. Typical episodic available would be go back about 6-7 shows. From what I hear, Hulu.com (due to legal reasons), is going to start requiring people to register before viewing their content. I personally would hate for that to happen, and would most likely not go anymore. Which got me thinking. I am very curious about people's opinions on how they can still maintain traffic while requiring a registration process. I came up with a few suggestions myself, and I would be more than open your opinions and discussions. Or if you guys know of similar situations other sites have faced, and how they were able to overcome these obstacles. 1) Provide bonuses/incentives such as discounted movie tickets or episodic paraphernalia based on accrued points 2) Provide additional access, where you can watch previously aired shows that date back to 1 or 2 seasons. 3) Weekly drawings/raffles to prize pools to theme parks etc.
I don't watch stuff on hulu that much but if I really wanted to watch something, I would just go ahead and register. You only have to do it once. And you register for so many things on the internet.
You just happen to be curious, yet ask those specific questions? You don't happen to work for Hulu.com by any chance, do you?
either he's working for hulu or he's trying to start his own similar venture.. "very curious" indeed.. misleading thread title. I started reading and wondered why a contributing member didn't search out an old hulu thread..
I have 2 home email addresses - one for getting email at home and one I only use to register for websites. No big deal.
You can't really start a similar venture to hulu. Hulu actually has rights to their content. You could be doing something similar to youtube which is more of a free-for-all that's loaded with pirated clips.
Watching a bunch of stuff online for free in a simple, one-stop location is enough to get me to register (and I did that a long time ago).
What's the point of so many websites always needing you to register? It doesn't affect me since I always put in fake information, but I'm just curious because it seems like I can't access content on almost any major site without going through some BS registration process.
Thanks for letting us in on this very little known website. I'm sure if they had commercials during the Super Bowl, we wouldn't need these tips...
Hulu.com is awesome! Just now catching up on season 3 of Heroes. I wonder how much longer it will be free.
The only time the registration is needed is for watching R rated movies and cable shows. You can watch Red Shoe Diaries on there now for example.
I think the registration is to prevent it from being a pay site. The registration info will probably be used to give advertisers demographic information and consequentially bring higher adrates. Hulu would lose a ton of popularity if it became a pay site.
Hey man. I can't do market research for you. If you want me to- I need to get paid, or at least give me some orange juice and a free donut.
