    According to the this report:http://www.aon.com/attachments/thought-leadership/2011_Health_Insurance_Trend_Driver_Survey.pdf

The biggest driver to the cost of individual plans is the getting rid of the pre existence clause, but this is something people really like. If you have something like cancer or if you are old you would have trouble getting insurance without this law.

The other biggest driver to costs is preventive care. However it usually costs less to treat someone early than wait for them at the emergency room.

However even without obamacare, premium rates are going up at rate much higher than inflation and had been doing that for a while.

All these people with canceled policies will be able to get insurance which would not have been the case without Obamacare.

The insurance system is broken and if obamacare helps us get to a single payer system then I think it was worth it. The current system can not exist because it just isn't controlling costs.

If you listen to your dad you will yet become the wise man that he is. Unfortunately, after drinking that dirty Barry kool-aid, it is far too late for you because there is no cure.

One of my favorite stories about the type of insurance plan that people can't keep even if they like it was a woman who was paying $65/month for a plan that had a maximum coverage of $2,000. Unfortunately she got cancer. Then she didn't like her policy so much.

For the most part many of the plans that folks can't continue with are akin to consumer rip offs.

Probably 99% of the folks decrying the inability to renew such junk policies are either folks with real policies who are still upset Obama won the election or folks who don't realize how limited their coverage is till they have to use it.

Germany isn't a single payer system and they aren't run by the govt. They are an exchange and have very good low cost healthcare.

    Exactly.

For a minority of the people Obama was wrong in what he said, and he shouldn't have said it. But It's the insurance companies changing the people's policies.

    Nice fact-based post.

You do realize that it was Obamacare that made them change right?

His man is a petulant child. He's blaming everything and everyone when he messes up. On Benghazi it was the YouTube video, on the Syrian redline it was not him who set it. Now, he's blaming the insurance companies.

Do you guys see a pattern here. Truly pathetic , we the Amercan people deserve better than this.

Anyone know if Obama called these guys?

These three guys in their 20s were so shocked by the flaws in Healthcare.gov that they devoted a few nights and weekends (when they weren't working their regular jobs) to TOTALLY fixing it.

    (facepalm)

S.F. programmers build alternative to HealthCare.gov

what a joke. Three 20-somethings can write decent code, but $600M+ of government money gets us complete garbage. This is why you don't want governments running anything -- they can only attract mediocre talent. Ever been to the DMV recently? nuff said

That does seem pretty simple but merely finding the insurance plans for someone at a particularly age in a particular zipcode isn't quite the same as what the health care exchanges are trying to do, seeing if you qualify and allowing for purchase of plans on the site. When it tried it couldn't give me a list of MN plans but directed me to MN's exchange. When I tried a California zip code it gave me a list of plans but I couldn't purchase the plans through that site but had to call or go to the insurance company's website.

This seems like a good entry point to the process but not the whole process itself.

Yup - this site is kind of pointless, as you can already do all this on EHealthInsurance.com - and you can apply there too. This site, at least for Texas, just tells you to call up Humana or BCBS or whatever to sign up. And if you do that, you can't get the subsidies so the whole thing sort of misses the point.

It's not working. I completed the ap for the 3rd time yesterday and I'm still just showing "In Progress" this morning. I'm not upset about it, it will get there.

I guess a lot of people don't remember how crappy the internet was when it was new or how many astronauts we killed. Big complicated stuff takes time.
