There are plenty of video apps. I even have one that plays h264 video (the typical encoding for DVD/BluRay rips on the Internet).
I'm on the non contract plan from t-mobile with with 250 minutes anytime. free nights/weekends. Unlimited text/web When "operation black" rolled in you had an option to get either a phone and a plan similar but you would pay extra because you bought a subsidized phone. I chose the option to go month to month with my N900 (which I bought on Amazon) for a really cheap rate. I am no longer allowed to buy a t-mobile subsidized phone though. I would have to have it billed full price phone to month on my plan. even more plus is the name of it.
I absolutely agree with you. About 2 months ago me and my sister made the jump to Verizon and the Droid after reading the awesome reviews for it. As it turned out, both of us had multiple issues with it and were able to return in within the 30 day time table (btw, we bought our phones from the big verizon store on San Felipe, sure many of you pass by it routinely, and I gotta tell you, their customer service is beyond horrible). Anyways, back to the Nexus One. So after returning the Droid, we went back to Tmobile, who gladly took us back and then ordered the Nexus through Google (Tmobile even put us on a family plan even though Nexus apparently does not come with one)... Best decision I've made since buying a PS3 ! This was about 2 weeks back, and every time I'm out, I get compliments on the sleek look of the Nexus. Its just a very stylish, fast, and user friendly phone. And not too many people have it, so it generates plenty of curiosity, specially from skeptic Iphone users, but once they use the Nexus for a minute or 2, they love it! So anyways, thats my 2 cents, I got a Nexus, and love it.
There have been many occasions when complete strangers would be so intrigued by my nexus one that they would ask me if they could mess with it for a bit. I love that not many people have it.
Well I do want to be able to open excel files and word docs. Does android have any capability to open those files using something like google docs? Also, I have a gmail account I want to be able to access seamlessly. Anyone know if it safe to assume that the android o/s is best compatible with gmail since they are both google products?
When I go to try and order the Nexus One it says I cannot upgrade. Im sure it is due to having a family plan. However, I wonder if I take that plan off since I dont talk on my phone much at all and stick with unlimited txt and data it actually may be cheaper than my monthly bill is now. Perhaps a call to TMobile is in order even though its usually a game of russian roulette with agents as the bullets.
I believe if you wait it out you get the best of both. Sprint HD2 and it will be an android o/s. I'm not 100% sure though
as someone else mentioned, the only reason i don't have a nexus one is because tmobile won't allow me to upgrade to it since i'm on a family plan. anyone know the reasoning behind this restriction? i think there are too many alternatives for smartphone consumers for a carrier to shut off possible buyers like that; and it contributes to the fact that not many people currently own one.
I haven't used the Nexus One yet, but the HD2 is pretty awesome. Windows Mobile with HTC's Sense UI works really, really well. The only downside, of course, is that it's not Windows series 7. You can bet there will be an HD3 with it. So if you have to buy now, I'd go Nexus One
There is an app that opens Microsoft Office 2007 files: http://www.dataviz.com/products/documentstogo/android/ You'll likely find an app for almost everything. Android's app space is growing faster than Apple's for two reasons: (1) openness, enticing to developers and (2) more room to grow since it's not as fully established. The Nexus One, at least, is completely based on your Google account. You buy it with your Google account. You buy apps using your Google account. You can import EVERYTHING from your Google account seamlessly (contacts, etc.). You get Google Voice, too, which you would otherwise need an invitation for.
So does your touchscreen freak out occasionally, too? Like, you touch one place for it registers the touch on a completely different area of the screen (usually lower)?
Happened to me once so far. I just turned phone off and back on, and it was just fine. Then again, this happens to my PS3 occasionally, so I can live with it
Yeah, I figured out all you have to do is suspend/lock it, then unlock it. Don't even have to turn it off. 3 second fix!
When you first buy the phone through google, you can only get the 79.99 plan I believe. Tmobile says that you must be on this plan for at least 4 months before they can switch you to a family plan. But on one of our calls we got an awesome agent who just put us on a family plan right away...... My advise to anyone trying to buy a nexus is to call Tmoblie first and tell them what you're planning on doing, and if you get a competent agent, they should guide you through the whole process.
I personally am an Android guy but there are rumors that HTC is releasing an HD3 this fall with WinMo7 and the rumored specs are insane- http://www.redmondpie.com/htc-hd3-specifications-leaks-in-the-wild-9140390/ A Chinese site by the name of QQ (QQ.com – English translated version) claims to have got hold of the specifications for the successor to HTC HD2. According to them, HTC HD3 will launch in November 2010 (exactly one year after HD2) and will be powered by Windows Mobile 7. Moreover, it will feature Qualcomm’s 1.5Ghz Snapdragon processor, a 4.5’’ HD display, HDMI port, support for 4G, WiFi and WIMAX, 8 megapixel camera with support for 720p HD recording, 16GB internal memory and 32GB external via microSD card. If you cannot wait, the Nexus One is your best bet. But if you can, then you should cop this. Good luck.
This is the same specs as the HTC Evo for Sprint only a 1.5GHz processor instead of a 1.0GHz processor. Also with it being 4G/WiMax capable, TMobile should be implementing it next year, so your phone would be ready when they do and you would not be regretting your contract.
