My best friend is a cop in LA. They are taught to protect themselves without guns (trust me, he's demonstrated the techniques more than a few times - and yes, it hurts). Cops are not taught to shoot to kill unless their life is threatened. Getting hit in the balls sucks, and if you must react with a gun, there are plenty pf places to shoot that wouldn't kill him. A friend of mine was killed by a cop in June 1999. His family won a civil suit against the police, but the cop wasn't really punished because of the ****ty cop union. I wouldn't be surprised if something similar happens here. Cops put their lives on the lines and I have to respect that. But, at the same time, some don't pay attention to their training and react very poorly in critical situations resulting in unecessary deaths. That's saddening.
Exactly. Furthermore, like it or not, their held to higher standard. I find it funny, that we get mad when an athlete gets into a fight when someone bothers him in a club, but we can accept a cop killing someone because he got kicked in the nads. I know they are underpaid, but the cops are the people who should be held to a higher standard. With great power comes great responsibility.
Seems like everybody is jumping to conclusions. The cop might have shot him because, perhaps the kid was trying to take the gun away after kicking him in the nads, or the kid was reaching into his pocket like he had a weapon. Maybe the cop just shot the kid for kicking him. We won't know for a while whether it was one way or another. Perhaps we should wait to see what comes out of this.
I didn't defend the police officer, actually my implication was the opposite. I'm playing poker tonight with some of the highest ranking officials in Harris County law enforcement, e-mail me your personal information so that I may pass it on. That way your opinions may garner some support. I never defended Kobe, if he is guilty he should be prosecuted to fullest extent of the law, if not the girl should be sued for slander. Grouping people based on your imaginary circumstance does not compliment your stellar knowledge, but magnifies your propensity for delusion. I hardly ever agree with Bigtexx but I would be inclined to have a beer with him, you on the other hand, I wouldn't give a squirt of piss for. Is that defense enough for you?
What's with the asinine, "behave yourselves" crap? As if all the people in these communities are sitting around with an agreement to commit crimes. I'm sure that they have meetings and what not where they remind everybody to break the law constantly. There's no way that crime there could be the result of poverty or anything. I'm sure that the # of criminals far exceeds the # of law abiding citizens. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't we established that this kid wasn't even a suspect, that he was a witness? How does that make him a juevenile delinquent? Wasn't he handcuffed? And wasn't he lying face down? I thought this was about officers who aren't doing things by the book. The only thing that makes me think racism is some of the crap I mentioned above, not the acts, just the people who said them. It's also funny that Another Brother, who is a former police officer, has is opinions tossed aside and exchanged for an argument he hasn't made. I wonder why that argument would be attached to him? Hmmm, what could make a person assume, or ...stereotype AB. I mean, I just wonder why his actual argument would be ignored in favor for one he didn't make, I mean, this is a real brain teaser.
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/2249671 Police said Escobar -- about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 220 pounds -- kicked the officers, injuring Carbonneau. The Internal Affairs Division of the Houston Police Department and the Harris County District Attorney's Office are investigating the shooting. The Harris County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the death a homicide.
Right! True colors are shining through. This is more evidence that Trader_Jorge is the biggest racial troll on here.
BTW AB, I think Bigtexxx would rather have a Skyy and Sprite instead of a beer. Just somethign I heard once
The funny thing about this post is the word THEY.....They = Poor people?/ Minorities?/ Non-Taxpaying people? Who are YOU talking about? You are looking at this in a totally different way than most. This is about a cop who shot a kid accidently (allegedly)...while trying to arrest him....This is not about how much it cost to have police patrolling in certain neighborhoods. A juvenile delinquent resists arrest and sucker punches a policeman in the balls. The officer must resort to using force. Force? The kid was shot....he is dead. Wow. Here's a solution: BEHAVE YOURSELF If only it were that easy T_J......I wish all people would do this.......Open your eyes.
He looks dangerous. What about this other accidental shooting? I hadn't heard much and thought it was something like a police chase, but this 15 year old kid was kild by off duty plain clothed cops who walked up to him with their gun drawn. He probably thought it was a car jacking.
Many officers carry Glocks, which have no hammer. They have a striker mechanism. This mechanism has a tendency to go off unintentionally when the weapon is slapped on the end of the gun in the right angle. Query: This gun went off in a struggle. If the kid was so innocent...why was there a struggle?
