The outlook that police are nothing but people who get off on kicking children is the pessimistic one. Question the reaction to authority. Real freedom is realizing that the only person who has ever, or could **** up is you. What looks like outside sources or authority do not really come from the outside. Don't leave your house and you won't get beaten... maybe. And to think, if we all just stopped driving for a week and didn't commit any petty crimes, the system would have to change, because cops would start losing their jobs due to no revenue coming in. For every action there must be an equal or opposite reaction.
Nobody is making him a poster child. The media will be the media... hype a story with potential legs. Poster child or not, this is about a pattern of brutality, is illegal and the cops should be punished. If the burglar needs jail time, so be it. End of story
I don't see why this is a story. If the police just randomly pulled some 15 year old black kid off the street and started beating him senseless for no reason then I would find reason to be upset. But generally if you steal something and proceed to run away from the law bad things are bound to happen.
The reason it is a story is that we have a legal system in place that places the onus on the courts to prove the guilt in the event that someone is held as a suspect for a crime. How can you not see why this is a story? Cops deciding to be the judge and jury with their hands and feet on a 15 year old and you can't see why this is a story? If I were 15 the lesson I would take away from this is that you better run even faster because if the law catches you, innocent or not, they are going to handcuff and beat you. This kid's rights were violated and ultimately these cops not only violated the public's trust but they also violated the taxpayers who are going to end up forking over a million bucks to a thief because the cops can't do their job in accordance with the law.
