Clueless is as clueless does. Apparently the idiot didn't even have a clue that his job might be in danger until the news broke yesterday: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-...have-been-unaware-of-plan-to-replace-him.html I don't know, but at most jobs, if you made a mistake that cost your employer a significant amount of money, you'd probably be scared about getting fired. This guy wipes out nearly 50% of shareholder value and is still skipping about whipping up a "strategy presentation" for his cronies. After orchestrating a $10 billion heist to give away to his friends at Autonomy. Why is it that so many corporate executives are so completely disconnected from reality and think they can just play around with livelihoods and billions of dollars like it's monopoly money?
Whitman's going to be a failure at HP. She knows nothing about the enterprise market. Most companies aren't run like Ebay.
I can't make a judgment about Whitman yet - at least she has some of the leadership qualities that Apotheker completely lacked. He was completely disconnected from the employees, from upper management, from the board, from investors. Apparently the only person he really consulted when making important decisions was Lane (who, by the way, I think might be an equally big problem and should have been demoted or let go instead of promoted. Of course, the board is way too dysfunctional to even make that happen). He totally blindsided Bradley (the executive VP of PSG) and Rubinstein on the recent decisions to terminate the TouchPad and spinoff the PC business, for example. I remember reading a story where an analyst complained about how after every earnings/investors conference call, they always left feeling more uncertain/confused/worried about the company than they did before the call. Imagine having millions of dollars invested in a guy's business and every time he talks to you you feel like "man, maybe I should be decreasing my investment in this mess". Right now everyone is in total limbo. Suppliers are in limbo. Customers are in limbo. Enterprise buyers are in limbo. Massive corporations who have massive contracts to buy desktops, servers and enterprise services from HP are sitting there not knowing what to do, and Dell and Lenovo are having a field day pouncing on these guys and snatching away valuable accounts. The company is in total free fall. I don't know if Meg Whitman is the best person for the job, but I doubt she could do worse.
I didn't have any faith HP would get it right back when they bought Palm, but even I'm surprised how badly that whole thing got ****ed up.
HP board hired Leo without meeting with him. But the amazing thing is how bad HP has gotten about corp comms, they have mangled every move. for a company with a so-called "deep bench" they have gone outside for the last three CEOs and each has been a disaster. And now Meg... No enterprise experience. Great move!
The board itself is so dysfunctional, it almost gives congress a run for their money. Deep mistrust, political infighting, hiring private detectives to hack into each other's phone records, etc. Apparently after they fired Hurd (which obviously not everyone was on board with), a search committee was formed to find a replacement, but everyone else didn't trust the search committee, so all the candidates were unappointable. By the time it came down to Apotheker, they were apparently so tired of fighting each other that they just accepted him by default without even so much as a review. Yep. Not so much as a review. Apparently nobody on the board even knew why Apotheker was fired from SAP in the first place, and when after the hiring the whole Oracle IP theft thing came to light, they basically arranged for him to fly on a private plane to nowhere so Ellison's boys couldn't find him to serve a subpoena. Of course, now that the guy has (almost successfully) orchestrated another grand larceny to the tune of a $10billion gift to Autonomy shareholders, they probably think they should have at least taken a glance at his resume first.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/23/splashtop-will-bring-remote-desktopping-to-your-touchpad/ Splashtop Remote Desktop application is coming out soon. I just use Citrix Receiver, but that's different
so i just bought this app (i'm using it to type this post) and i have to say...it is amazing! Negligible lag, full control of my laptop and ALL of its docs, vids, programs and functionality. Only problem is that scrolling is annoying since it isn't touch optimized (thinking about getting windows 8 and seeing how it will work). Most importantly, the price has dropped from 19.99 to 4.99! Highly recommended!
Yes... a great way to get around the limitation of webOS apps available, since you can run Windows apps including NetFlix and other video streaming. I just downloaded and ran it for the first time... need to spend more time with it to learn all I can do with it, but really happy so far.
And I really like how the app's keyboard adds useful functions like delete and arrow keys. And... no lag!
Looks like we're going to be selling 1. With case, and invisi-shield on it. Got a Toshiba Thrive for $150.
Alright, bought it for my gf. But she got that thrive real cheap, so I'm sure she wants to sell it. I'll be in Houston this weekend. Not looking to make a profit, just cover most of the expenses (case and tablet).
