Orders for Touchpads were opened to HP Employees yesterday. Limit 1 per employee. My friend was never able to place the order online since the site kept erroring out, but was finally able to get one after waiting on the phone for over 2 hours. Hope they have some left for the public.
The employee sale yesterday was ridiculous. Took me forever to get my order in. The EPP site was at a standstill practically all day. It got so bad, HP Shopping felt compelled to send out an internal memo to "calm the natives," so to speak. Muh ha ha ha! Now I have TWO Touchpads! (I got a free one from the Palm guys over a month ago.)
Got my HP EPP touchpad in the mail yesterday. Very satisfied with the machine so far, actually a little better than I expected.
HP TouchPad Sale: Best Buy Offers 32GB Model for $149; But What's the Deal? By Kukil Bora | November 1, 2011 6:41 AM EDT If you were one of those who missed the chance of snagging an HP TouchPad during the $99 fire sale, here is some good news for you. The discounted HP TouchPad is back on sale now. Best Buy is selling the 32GB model of the HP TouchPad for its fire sale price of $149. But the deal is not as simple as it looks; the tablet is eligible for the discount price only with the purchase of a new PC. Starting Tuesday, customers who purchase an HP or Compaq computer from Best Buy retail and Web stores will be eligible to pick a 32GB HP TouchPad for the heavily discounted $149 in addition to the price of the PC. Without a PC purchase, customers have to pay $599 for the tablet. This was the price HP originally set before winding up the product on Aug. 18. The offer will not be available in store shelves nationwide until Nov. 4 and it does not include the 16GB model which was priced at $99 during the fire sale. http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/241080/20111101/hp-touchpad-sale-best-buy-offers-32gb.htm
Well.. *IF* you are in the market for a new computer anyway, then it's a no-brainer. Especially once they work out the CM7 to be easy enough for anyone to readily do it, it would still be the best bang for the buck on a tablet.
I'm curious to see what happens once the AOSP source comes out for ICS. CM9 might be possible on the device
(posting this in both of the Touchpad threads..) Ok well, if you have been wanting one of these Touchpads, today might be your day. TigerDirect.com has them TODAY, (11/4/11), in a bundle. The sale begins at 1:30pm Houston time, and they expect them to all be gone in 5 minutes or so. Here is the link: http://www.tigerdirect.com/sectors/campaigns/hp/touchpad_available.asp Now this bundle is $279, and it includes the 32GB Touchpad, a Belkin case, a Belkin stand, a Creative D80 Bluetooth speaker, and a 16GB USB flash drive. All in all, if you bought all those accessories on Amazon separately, you would spend MAYBE $100 - $120. So this deal barely qualifies as a 'bundle', in my opinion.. BUT, you end up with the 32GB Touchpad, and at least I know the Bluetooth speaker and the 16GB flash drive would get a lot of use, at least from me. And the blade-stand thingy gets good reviews on Amazon too, so it's not a BAD bundle deal, for sure. Definitely better than having to buy a whole HP computer just for the privilege of being able to buy a fire-sale 32GB Touchpad.. lol Anyway, just wanted to pass this along. Having said all that, I know as well as everybody else that the only real future of this particular piece of hardware is as a combo WebOS/Android tablet, so if you are just thinking 'Hey, a 32GB 10" Android tablet for @$300, then you might also want to turn your eyes to today's Fry's ad, as they are selling the Lenovo 32GB Ideapad K1 for $319. Just fyi. If you decide to go for the TigerDirect sale, I hope you get one.
As a TouchPad user, I would point folks to the Lenova... I haven't had any probs with the TouchPad, and as a $99 tablet it definitely has satisfied me (I only use it to browse and respond to email from the couch), but if I were looking at the choice between a $280 32GB TP or an Android or even Apple alternative, I would save and spend the extra money for the alternative. Or... save the money and just use my laptop.
It's back. Refurbs from HP. $99 for 16gb and $149 for 32gb http://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=45861562&postcount=2 Visit that link.
Just wondering, are you guys still using your HP Touchpads? I remember trying to get one when that initial big sale went down.
Yes. I use two or three times a week. Surf net and watch videos. Of course I did the thing to make it android. Have not booted it up in the hp mode since I changed it.
Typing on it right now. Runs both webOS and Android 4.2 (OaT JB 10.1). Almost exclusively Android at this point. No issues, runs everything I need. If I were to buy a tablet now I'd buy a Nexus 7, iPad Mini or the Surface that someone posted a deal on via eBay. But since I bought the TouchPad for $99 and have gotten great use from it I am very happy with it. Heck, I may even try KitKat on it at some point.
