I clicked through to them and got halfway through ordering when I thought better of it and checked their ratings. I don't want a cheap touchpad so badly as to risk a scam. I've had bad dealings with unscrupulous electronics vendors before.

I guess B&N wasn't serious when they said "cannot be removed" means your order goes through. My order for 2 was cancelled yesterday afternoon :(

Just called HP small business support for the link someone posted earlier. Here is the message from HP.

If you placed your order before 4am CST on Monday you order will be honored. If your order was placed after 4am you order will be canceled.

Is it that difficult for websites to have a stocking system in place that automatically cuts off after a certain number of orders are placed?

Does seem a bit unfair. Seems to me unless you have the $$, time, or patience to order multiple units from multiple sources, you end up waiting while the other possible sources dry up.

Best Buy has the same rule/process in place... you place your order, and at least for a certain amount of time you can cancel, but pretty soon the web site gets updated and you are then told:

"Item can not be canceled." And you can get more info: "Items cannot be canceled if they have already been processed for shipping, home delivery or store pickup. You may also see a "Can't be canceled" message if you have already canceled an item.

If you no longer want an item, but it's too late to cancel it:

If your item is being shipped, you will need to return the item. Please see your return options in our Return Policy for Items Purchased Online."

So... Best Buy doesn't let you cancel an order, because "it has already been processed for shipping, home delivery, or store pickup." Which would seem to suggest you are getting the product. Yet... two and half days later, I have no idea if Best Buy is fulfilling this order or not. The same status shows on the web site: "Order Status: 1 item(s) - Order in process of being fulfilled; Usually ships in 0 - 1 days". Emailing them through the web site doesn't get a result, and calling them gets a person who doesn't know whether the order is being fulfilled, or canceled, or ?

Again, I will be patient and see what happens. By coincidence I received a survey about the Best Buy online experience... I am holding off completing it.

It is harder than you think for large sites, when you could have hundreds thousands and tens of thousands orders coming in almost at the same time. The lag of a few seconds could mean you have maybe thousands of order beyond your inventory.

best buy has the worst online ordering system ever...
So when the 3DS came out I placed an order for one online. I actually set it to STORE PICKUP. So anways I go into the store later that afternoon. They actually have a crap load of 3DS's. I go to customer service with my order confirmation saying I want to pick up my order.
They look it up in their computer and siad ohh wait sorry your order is still being prepared to ship. I was like WTF can you just take one off the shelf and scan it and fulfill it now? She said let me ask my manager. Wait for 30mins or so. Manager shows up appologizes and says I cant pick it up till the ORDER STATUS says READY or SHIPPED..
I then said FINE can i cancel my order and just buy one in store now. Of course as others have mentioned you cant freaken cancel a Best Buy online order!!

Last time I am ever ordering anything online from best buy again.

I understand that...doesn't explain why I was able to order a Barnes and Noble TouchPad at 8:30am yesterday when people who ordered the previous day were even getting their orders canceled. Nor does it explain a company accepting 30,000 orders for 300 iPads.

I know the technology challenges involved, but come on.

Ya, time lag is a very short period, at most minutes. Unless they don't trust their inventory system's accuracy. It does not hurt them to take more orders, they can cancel them anytime.

Hmm, most retailers are probably taking down the displays. Staples is taking theirs down today.

    I don't always buy a 32GB Touchpad,
but when I do, I include 500 sheets of recycled paper.
