The US currently has its lowest unemployment rate in FOUR YEARS. The economy is red hot. RMTex was absolutely embarrassed in the D&D in an economics thread recently. Looks like he took his act to the Hangout, hoping to meet less resistance. HP's performance is not a proxy for the state of the economy. HP is being routed by competing firms, namely Dell, and that is the source of their troubles. This is not a macro issue, but rather a firm-specific issue.
Don't like the historical period cited? Ok. Try this on for size. Current unemployment rate: 5.1% Average for 1980's: 7.27% Average for 1990's: 5.75% Average for Clinton Presidency: 5.2% So despite the bubble bursting (began in March 2000, btw), 9-11, and the War on Terror, the current economy's unemployment rate is beneath that of the 80's, 90's and Clinton's term. That is very very impressive.
Here you are, asking where the jobs are and upon learning that the unemployment rate is at 4-year lows, sulking off into the background, never to be heard from again on the topic. Then, a week later, a thread is started which highlights the job growth -- you predictably tuck tail and run from it. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=98293&highlight=unemployment
I worked for Compaq. Started there in 97 as a contractor, then got hired on in 98, then got laid off in 2000. During my entire stay, the company was in constant turmoil. Every 6 months there would be another reorg to stress everyone out. The job was fun, but even after becoming an employee, I still had to keep my resume circulating. HP is not a place to hang your hat, unless maybe your in the sales area. You can be an excellent performer and still get cut. I worked in the Presario division and when they dropped that line, they let go everyone except the Director.
Exactly...When's the last time anyone bought something HP...I actually have an HP digital camera, HP desktop & Printer, but that was years ago...There overhead is too fat and thus the quickest way, typically, in CEO's minds are to save there way to prosperity, thus the job cuts...In general, its hard to believe in staying with one company forever...I've been thru so many re-orgs, that its just common place...
Everyone knows where the jobs are, Condorkador. They are in Iraq. Your President is killing the middle class. Why can't you admit it? Meanwhile, you are embarassed on a daily basis in the D&D.......
T_J, you seems to be familiar with the economical statistics. Could you provide a breakdown of the types of jobs generated through that last four years and the types of jobs lost? What are the medium and mean salary for both? I am very curious. If the new jobs are on par or better than the old jobs lost, I believe Bush might be doing much better than many on this board including myself gave him credit for. Thanks
Look in the mirror, champ. You appear to be blinded by the data presented in this thread. Truth hurts, huh?
RMTex -- Predictably, you offer nothing but silliness in response to the overwhelming empirical evidence which I have cited. You are just out of your league. In the same way that I don't confront you on issues such as market rates for mobile homes, how to fix a broken car window using duct tape and celophane, and how to recharge batteries by putting them in the freezer, you likewise should not confront me on economic issues.
LOL - excuses, qualifiers, other whiney comments... You all can't be convinced, even when presented with overwhelming data that says the economy is quite strong.
