I don't expect anything from him.

People tried to compare him to Ben Wallace because of his size and literally no offensive game. That is where the comparison should have ended.

I remember, in the preseason, a lot of people said we could let Carl Landry walk because Dorsey would replace him. I asked what made them think he would be so good. They said it was because he was the Ray Lewis of basketball. :)

The thing about Dorsey is he seems so damn cocky to be a 2nd round pick with no offensive game. He picked up a tech in his first summer league game. When he went to that D-League tournament people were saying he looked like he didn't care out there, almost like he was to good to be out there.

    I just don't get it.

I just think that by drafting him. He would be able to get landry on the cheap. because if it weren't for the landry situation. he would've drafted somebody else

He has more offense than Chuck does, he'll throw it down hard instead of trying to make some tough layups like Chuck. He has freakish athleticism compared to Chuck which in my opinion gives him more potential. He seems to be liked by all his teammates, you think they would like him if he didn't make any effort to become a better player while at the same time getting paid for not even hitting the court?
Yes he is a little older for a rookie, which cuts a little bit into his potential, but he was injured with plantar fasciitis. Remember this is the same injury that Mario Williams struggled with throughout his unproductive rookie season. So I think the case is still out on Joey, but I like what he brings to the team if he can get healthy and develop some.

you guys are really understimating Joey.

just because you havent seen him do anything doesn't mean he hasn't done anything.

    seriously.

Almost every player in the league has more athleticism than Chuck yet none (or very few of them) can match his defense in the post.

Potential is a hard thing to measure but when a player comes into the league, unless he is straight from high school, the coaches and management can usually get a good handle on what type of player he will become in the NBA. Dorsey just doesn't have the tools and I'm shocked that Morey didn't see this earlier because it seemed like the more intelligent fans did.

Dorsey isn't going to replace Chuck or Carl or even Brian Cook. I guess "Ray Lewis with a basketball" should have tried football instead.

DeAndre Jordan was available.....yeah DeAndre had questionable work ethic and NO bball IQ himself. But he also has ACTUAL length not that over-measuring moneyball length, with equal athleticism to go with that length.

He's 5 years younger than Dorsey. Which means he can mature as he goes. Could have easily slapped a simple "potential" tag on DeAndre and let him sit. Where Dorsey is more like a fixed old man.

Dorsey had a couple monster rebounding games in the summer league, not like he doesnt have an NBA skill. But I dont know...Dorsey's an undersized power forward, yet trying to make him play CENTER replacing one of the tallest, longest players in the league with Mutumbo. Thats like Aaron Brooks being an undersized 2 guard, yet wanting him to play small forward.

comparing dorsey to mutombo is a little unfair dont you think?

deke is one of the best defensive centers ever. his agility, timing, durability, attitude, and commitment to his body over the years are all huge assets. there are not many like him.

dorsey is an explosive athlete, has a big wingspan, and is much more agile than any big body the rockets have on the roster right now. moreso than landry, even. he is quick off his feet and has a great sense of timing both in rebounding and shot blocking. he is a great weakside intimidator as well. what he needs to learn is proper NBA fundamentals so he doesnt pick up a ton of cheap fouls. he definitely needs to learn to pick his battles, which shots to contest, and how to body people up without giving the appearance of a foul.

if anything about him is questionable, its that he seems to have a bit of tmac's "i can just show up and be better than everyone else" attitude. not that he doesn't work, but I'm not convinced that he believes he needs to.

he was the best defensive player in all of college basketball, he spent time under a great college coach for 4 years, he has a skillset that your team is severely lacking in the frontcourt, and you got him in the second round. i think he deserves more respect/patience than he's getting.

i'm not saying he will become a star. i'm not even saying he'll make it as an NBA player. all i'm saying is that i think its worth waiting for him to develop, because he could be a huge piece for this team going forward.

I saw all I needed to see of him in the D-league games. He's a certifiable bust.

Wasn't Dorsey drafted to be a bargaining chip in the Landry negotiations?

Now that Landry has signed, Dorsey naturally goes to the D-League...

Same probably goes for James White and Von :)

When he's signed to a guaranteed two-year contract and can barely hit rim on 5-foot jump hooks unguarded :D

Thats pretty much what i said. if you're going to take a project, its going to be a 7ft 250lbs athletic project. Since when is a 6'6 pf a project? I guess it just me wanting bigger more athletic guys. Jordan when he played actually showed something.

Dorsey sucks. He's got no basketball skills and is undersized. Morey made a mistake here. I agree with those saying that the Rockets should've drafted DeAndre Jordan out of A&M. Leebigez hit the nail on the head with his post above. I get Clippers and Lakers games out here and Jordan has actual played pretty well and contributed at times for the Clips.

This analysis sounds like the Forbes article saying the Texans were among the best drafting teams because the Texans still have most of their draft picks on the roster.

DeAndre Jordan probably wouldn't play any more on the Rockets than Dorsey did. He plays for an incredibly bad, undisciplined team so its not hard to get minutes and contribute something. I bet Dorsey could've contributed at least something on the Clippers.

The Rockets happen to have the best Center in the West (if not the league) and one of the best PF rotations in the league. Unless Dorsey magically developed a decent offensive game then he was never going to play (and he didn't). Same thing for DeAndre Jordan, he would never have been given the chance to contribute on the floor.

I thought Projects were for guys with potential, like a DeAndre Jordan.

We took a project that has basically reached his ceiling as a player. He is what he is at this point. Didn't make much sense but oh well nobody is perfect.

What about when Deke retires? Jordan could've been the legit, tall, young, and athletic backup C for Yao we've all been looking for.
