webber could be a nice fit, but only at limited minutes, he could share place with deke, where when yao is out, offense you go with webber, while if defense is needed you go with deke. Comments about his bad defense, at least he is more mobile than deke and yao, so he "could" match up with okur, with hayes covering boozer. And all those elite 4s have always been guarded by hayes not yao. So webber would not be too much of a liability. 1 player from past adelman's team i would like to add will be artest. Now thats a player that is still around his prime, not some has beens like peja, bibby and webber.
It's all ok,but how can we sign him?! First of all he would try to get max money he can,we would cut someone and bring him. Good but It's really a longlonglonglongshot. I think Morey even doesn't think about it.
If he wanted to be here and was fine with limited minutes he would be a great fit. Cut Novak or Snyder or someone. Heck, maybe even trade Head or something else. Webber could be the back up 5 and 4.
sweet jesus, so lets get webber and let detroit win championships, then we trade we trade him to the Pantynakos to play with TMAC of the greece and we win championships, then Pantynakos can trade him to china, and VSpan will win championships. WEEEE
An idea that's probably two years too late. Chuck Hayes' offensive skills and free throw shooting makes me visually cringe. Just not as much as I would watching CWebb trying to D the WC elites w/o help from the likes of Sheed, Prince, Hamilton & Billups. The Pistons could cover for him. The Rockets can't.
Yes and I pointed that none of Webber's teams won when he left. That's a r****ded statement. It's one thing to just blurt out idiotic phrases, it's another to blurt out idiotic phrases that can be looked up in 2 seconds on google.
I like Webber. I just don't know if the roster has sufficient room, considering that even the mighty Francis hasn't seen a single minute of action. But if a roster spot can be cleared, then I'd say go for it. I've long wanted Webber to be a Houston Rocket.
Taking minutes from whom? Hayes? - addressed that...Scola? - not a good idea IMHO. He needs PT to develop. Mutombo - possibly, but why? Apart from sentiment, Mutombo still has a defensive presence that Webber lacks at this point. Waive Mutombo and even a short-term Yao injury would be devastating w/o Deke. Keep Mutombo, sign Webber and cut Landry? "Win - Now" died with VG's depature. Bottomline...they've got plenty of fire power, decent passers and reasonably good on-the-ball defenders. IMHO, any upgrade you make changes the chemistry dynamic. So if you're going to tinker with that...you go for some combination of younger, stronger, more athletic. That to me makes the most sense and it provides a cushion as your core ages.
I disagree that Mutombo brings much to the team even if Yao gets hurt. He doesn't really fit in this system at all.
I loe the idea of bringing in Webber as a backup and playing him for 10-20MPG. I don't know if any of you guys have noticed, but none of our bigmen are even remotely effective in the high post, which is one of the biggest factors in making an Adelman offense click. Hayes i a decent passer but no defender resepcts his game enough to play him 15ft out, thus the passing lanes get clogged up. With Yao, while he does have a nice jumper, he cannot put the ball on the floor, and looks extremely uncomfortable in the high post. Besides, his scoring and passing game is far too valuable in the low post for him to et significant plays ran in the high post. And as for Scola, he looks completely lost on offense. So, enter Webber. While he is not as athletic as he once was, defenses still have to respect his midrange game, thus the passing lanes immediately unclog. He is an incredible passer who will find slashers and 3pt shooters. And while most people hate Juwan, he was quite effective in the pick and roll with T-Mac when he was hitting the midrange jumper...Webber gives you similar production from that standpoint. Webber would immediately be our most potent player offensively at the 4, and his passing and comfort in the high post would open things up for every player. And if nothing else, he could greatly help Scola in learning the offense. Defensively, no he is not a great player...but he wouldn't make us any more vulnerable than we already are against the WC elites. Against the Jazz, Yao is totally ineffective against Boozer...with Webber, you can match him up with Okur, and then Hayes can lockdown Boozer. Against the Suns, Yao is also highly ineffective as Amare has that same inside-outside game as Boozer...Webber will not be beat as easily as Yao defensively, and has the option of playing their PF while Hayes guards the undersized Amare. Against the Spurs, you can sub him in at the 4 and leave Yao in at the 5. This would force either Elsen/Oberto or Duncan to come out to the perimeter, and Yao would e greatly freed up and T-Mac would have one less man to meet in the paint. And defensively Webber would be fine against Oberto or Elsen. If he is willing to play for a bargain price and willing to take a role off the bench, sign him in a heartbeat.
I liked Webber too, but that was a long time ago, right now he is just another vesion of J. Howard, taking one jump after another. I just hope that I can see Francis on the floor this weekend. NO CW.
The problem with your "fit the system" logic is you're only looking at one half of a basketball court. If Yao goes down and Deke is waived, the last thing on this planet I want to see is CWebb, Hayes and rookie Scola and NBDL'ers Landry and Novak defending the best 4's and 5's in the WC. As mentioned at the start...the Pistons can get away with it. Houston can't...end of discussion.
