The scary part is that Kobe (and nash) will be done in a few years. Both are craving rings. Nash is healthy and Kobe's knee is feeling better. They're going to go all out for at least a year or two, maybe 3. The length of Gasol and Howard will kill the Heat.

I'm really starting to hate the NBA, and what it's become. What's the point of being a fan anywhere except LA and Miami?

Nobody is beating the Heat, but this Lakers team would give them a damn good challenge.

Does Bynum want to go to Orlando though? All he has to do is say he won't resign and the deal is dead and he stays with the Lakers since his contract expires at the same time as Dwight's.

Exactly. Unless Bynum would agree to extend his deal in Orlando then a Bynum for Howard deal makes no sense. If Orlando is going to go into the season with a lame duck center then it will be Howard.

Sigh if this is true. Parity is what makes the NFL so great. I'm getting more and more annoyed with the NBA.

might as well. just kill us. many of us are just hanging on to that faint hope that we still have a shot at howard. once that is gone everything breaks down and we would have finally hit rock bottom.

Trust me even if we sign asik and lin, we are in rock bottom. The offseason is not over but if the lakers get howard, we may as well throw in the white flag.

Well, it certainly sucks to be a fan of about 25 teams not named Miami, LA, OKC, NY/Brooklyn. However, putting home team loyalties aside, you can't tell me you wouldn't want to watch LA-OKC winner play Miami in the NBA Finals next year. That is very much like LA-Boston matchups of the 80s.

i am not there is nothing to hang on...even if we did land howard...hes defintely not staying now...the one thing we had was a strong point guard situation...now we freaking suck ... we let our two best players walk for nothing... we basically traded lowry for what? at best another Terrence Jones....its going to be a worst draft next year...and you know morey will draft a 6'8" sf/pf tweener

    What a surprise.

The NBA has always been this way, and probably always will. For every basketball fan that gets fed up, there's 5 casual fans that get involved.

The NHL has the most parity in this league, and look at its popularity.

The NBA always celebrates "greatness," not parity. There's a reason we have "dynasties" in the NBA moreso than other leagues.

The NBA is enjoying its best ratings since Miami formed its trio. That's what people watch the NBA for.

The league has apparently turned into the league of QBs. When was the last time a team won with a substandard QB.

NBA had some of its best ratings in a very long time. ESPN and TNT had their best years ever. The NBA was pulling 20+ ratings when it was the bulls winning every year. Parity is overrated. The public wants greatness whether it is small market or not.

kind of different...look at it's popularity in canada and in northern states where people actually grew up playing.

I still watch bc Im a sports fan. But the NBA is fourth behind the NFL and college football/basketball.

    Stern. Refs. Lack of parity.

Same here. I'm still wondering about a 3 or 4 team scenario along the lines of what Ron posted in the GARM, with Howard in LA and Bynum in Houston. That would seem to make more sense than Orlando taking in Bynum without an extension.
