I think this is a great article that cuts to the heart of what Dean is about. He is no different than Mondale, Dukakis, McGovern and other classic Democratic liberals who always lose big in the general election. The only way that any Democrat can win the presidency is to fool the whites in the suburbs that he is a "centrist" as Clinton did twice and Carter pulled once. Gore only completed that task halfway and thus his positions on gun control hurt him in several states such as Tennessee. Unless the electorate takes a far-left turn between now and the election, Dean has about as good a chance at winning the Presidency as Vanderbilt or Baylor (for you Texans) has of winning the NCAA championship in football.
Vanderbilt or Baylor would have a damn good chance if they only had to beat McNeese State for the championship.
