I don't think he goes for the block every time. That is one of the biggest reasons for this thread. He is too much out of position / not even providing help defense. Do you think he patrols the paint / goes from one side of the paint to the other side to block or contest shots (like Ibaka) or even really leaves his area very much? I don't. That's what Asik did. Howard is too slow reacting, if he reacts at all, & inactive / no comparison to the rim protector Asik is.

Last year at this point in the season we were 24-22.

This year, with several injury issues, we are 29-17.

The team is clearly worse now with Howard right?

Lol Asik. I loved the guy before his temper tantrum, but he just looks for ways to fail on offense. Look at that first PnR on the video - he is wide open, but still pump fakes, shuffles his feet, and goes up weak with the lay up instead of dunking. Not to mention the catch didn't look great. Pretty sad.

    Clearly better with Howard

But what is worrying is that by this point in the season, it was expected that the team would start gelling and having an identity. And instead, they keep on stumbling, and stumbling hard.

This isn't to say it won't happen. There are some understandable factors holding back forming an identity and team chemistry. (For example the Asik situation).

But something is not right in Rockets land.

So you can't understand why I am thinking Asik is better than Dwight? Wow you won the internet Sir, since you continue to completely ignore my posts and what I am saying. WHERE exactly did I say that? Care to tell me?

    last season = 24-22 + $20.5 M cap
    this season = 29-17 + $20.5 M spent

    Last season for the win.

    cap space > wins

I watch the Rockets for cap space and only cap space because the bigger it is the happier I am

You would think a lot more wins could've been achieved with that money though.

5 more wins is worth 20+ million? Not to mention Lin played like ass the first half of last season, that factors in too.

Howard is not that big an upgrade over Asik and slows the game down which is the last thing the Rockets need.

Upgrading the PF position with that money and keeping Asik at starting center would have netted a lot more wins imo.

yes because one signing instantaneously gives you a championship first season right? all max signings in the history of the NBA brought 30 more wins for the team after its first season.

We have have a lot more wins at this point of the season compared to the last despite the fact all of starters except Howard have missed a lot of games due to injuries and we have Asik chilling and not doing anything. how many more games do you propose we should have won 3 month into the season with a new roster.

Thread title and your posts suggest that Asik is better for this team than Howard. But there's absolutely no evidence to back that up lol

Just watching the games, Howard has not been much of an upgrade over Asik. He's an upgrade for sure but definitely not an upgrade that matches the salaries. The Rockets were getting a steal with Asik, really only paying 8.3 million/year for one of best defensive centers in the game.

The Rockets should've used that money to resign Parsons and get a Kevin Love (or another star in FA).

What he needs to do is to apply the Clutch 2-line table analysis, and post with a title, "The number is clear" with either Howard > Asik or Asik > Howard, we will all agree with whatever he says then if he can do that.

Yeah! Trade Everyone who has a salary over 1M!
Only sign players with minimum contracts!

Make that cap space as big as possible!

We would have had a lot more wins if not for the late game heroics of a few teams and our lack or finishing off games down the stretch. Coaching is our biggest problem and in someways I want to fail to force our hand into an upgrade there.

How many of the added wins compared to last season are to be attributed to Howard and how many are to be attributed to improvement of Harden and especially Parsons?
