That's because they drafted an elite player in Duncan. The best PF ever.

This is a great point! Draft smart, which we have been for the last 3 years and things will fall in place.

Yeah if the Free agents are real serious about all of that global icon stuff and international money? This is where they should only be considering. Then its possible Chinese endorsements and real bucks to be made here. Of course if there agents just arent that smart or savvy I cant blame the players themselves.

That's the bottom line plus lack of cap room.

Brooks is nice, but it's a huge stretch to imagine him as an elite player. He may become a star if he continues to improve, but he is not there yet IMO.

Partially true....everyone already knows who these stars are, but like espn reported...kobe is #1 in china...I would imagine any big name should they decide to come here would have the EASIEST opportunity to change that in Houston...and also true that they are already all-stars, but one would think coming to Houston pretty much guarantees STARTING in the all star game, whether they are having a shaky season or not...

as for any proposals....there's nothing you can do...its luck...whether its the draft, having money at the right time, or dealing with r****ded gms who don't know what they are doing. You have to have some luck to start it all, then the players will follow. Yao was our first bit of luck, or so it seemed, in a long time, but that hasn't quite worked out as we hoped. So I say we sit back and hope we get lucky again... only this time hopefully its more like 94-95 than 05-09

SA, to my knowledge, has never signed a big name FA. All of their moves have been through the draft and/or through trades. They've gotten Duncan, Parker, and Ginobili all through smart draft picks.

Daryl Morey is making moves that are very similar to what the Spurs have done throughout the years...building through the draft. If we get a BIG NAME FA...great..if not, we've got a lot of pieces to work with.

Well hopefully he has a smart agent. The agent would put two and two together. Houston plus China equals mad money for his client. Then he realizes the huge elephant in the room when considering straight up signing for Miami or Chicago? You cant make more money in a straight up signing than you would with the Rockets sign and trade or resigning back with your old team. So with Rockets or your old team you make the most money. Its not even close because you definately make more money in Houston than anywhere else with the Yao effect also and Houston endorsements too to go along with the tax system for athletes here..

Have the most money to offer. That's really the extent of it. If the money is in the same ballpark as another team, that's one thing, but I think for the most part you never have more than a couple of teams with the same amount of money to offer where it becomes a question of which location is more desirable. I know that's the case this summer, but it's pretty rare that you have so many teams competing like that.

...and for those who think we aren't a desirable location for FAs, when is the last time we even had the money to lure a difference maker free agent? Players follow the money....they may love partying in LA or Miami, but when push comes to shove are they really going to take less money to play in those locations? Of course not.

That's because they wisely allow the market to set the price of FAs. They clearly don't find it's a successful strategy to aggressively pay for FAs. In fact, if you look at the better run teams in the league, very few of them have made big splash FA signings. It's normally the poorer run teams who overpay for players. Take the "good" GMs in places like Houston, OKC, Lakers, Spurs - they have acquired nearly all their big pieces either by the draft or through trades.

The first time... Tracy handled the situation by himself and completely ****ed it up for himself and the franchise.

I don't blame Adelman for taking precautionary measures and taking all the responsibility out of McGrady's hands when decisions needed to be made after the first incident.
