I think a team that makes the playoffs could help entice players that want to go somewhere where they can win. Anyone know how often do all stars-superstars sign with a lottery team that is not in a big market?

As A true Rockets fan I think making the playoffs will hurt us. I dont wanna be one of those teams that say's " Hey Mom, Look At Me I'm In The Playoffs" I say gut the roster and bring D-mo, Llull to the states. 2 first rounder would help also, If we make the playoffs We done in the 1st round and end up with one 1st rounder.

I think that I would rather have more lotto picks in this year's draft since this team appears to be stuck in mediocrity

Well, I wouldn't be shocked. Right now, I don't feel much of anything. It has been so long since the Rockets were relevant I am mostly numb. We are definitely in "more of the same" mode. Even the Clippers have passed us, the Clippers! It seems like Denver and Utah have rebuilt several times while we have run in circles. Good grief, the Seattle Thunder are a number one contender.

When adelman left,I said the difference between the rockets and teams like the minny and gsw is adelman. I've spoken many times about his shortcomings, but his style of coaching works. He can take any team in the league, the worse teams in the league, and they would be .500. The rockets have had .500 talent for a couple of years and they finished around that mark. Minny has more talent, just younger. The lakers made a big mistake by not hiring adelman. Adelman is a great coach and great coaches are worth a lot of wins in this league when the talent is close.

How many superstars sign with a team that doesn't already have a superstar?

It's not about winning that drives superstars to another team - they want someone to share the load while they win.

It doesn't matter to me what Minnesota does. They are in a better position than us for the long term because they already have a franchise player in Kevin Love to build around and a few young pieces around him. I have not been happy with the direction of the Rockets for a while. It appears that we have had no long term plan and just *hope* to get lucky and land a big name in a trade and/or FA. It's not going to happen. Mediocrity is just not very exciting.

The responses have been varied and interesting. I agree with many on almost all of the levels to some degree.

But ultimately, I want the Rockets to make the playoffs this year no matter what happens by the trade "deadline". I miss the excitement of being in the playoffs, even if we are highly favored to lose. Just the opportunity to possibly upset someone in the playoffs is exciting.

On another note, it's interesting that this is rated as a one star thread with so many strong opinions floating around...but who cares. lol

you know what'd be even worse? if we end up with the same record as the twolves and with the tiebreaker, they slip into the playoffs. we get the highly coveted ninth seed yet again and the knicks miraculously win the #1 pick.

I think there are several factors:

    1. If no deal happens at the trade deadline to improve, I hope we don't make the playoffs (for a higher draft pick) + we don't know what may happen with New York, all it takes is one injury..

    2. If a trade deadline deal improves us greatly, we obviously strive to make the playoffs and even if you don't go far, we could attract a star with the talent that we would have aquired.

    3. If we are are somewhat the same or slightly improved, we shoot for the playoffs, who knows, we may not be the #8 seed facing the #1., but possibly a 6th seed vs. the 3rd seed.. better the seed, better the chance of playing an equivalent opponent (in theory).
