agreed. I think making the playoffs is not the target for the season, not with this current squad. Last thing I want to see is we riding on tmac to just make the playoffs and endup getting knocked out in the 1st or second round. Lets face it guys, we are not going to win a championship this year, with or without tmac. no matter if its the orlando tmac or the 04-05 tmac, don't care, we won't win a championship. Before anyone start calling me a non-rocket fan and tell me to F-off from this site, i totally support the team, and only want good for the rockets. So that is why i prefer to trade away tmac around the deadline for someone who can help us next year or keep tmac and end with a high lottery pick. That would be a success. I personally think the days of Tmac and yao are over. have to trade one of them for young and up coming tallent. It is unlikely we trade Yao, so i would gladly part ways with tmac for someone that is young and can use the rest of the season to develop his skills so that we can seriously make a run for it next season.

This is my thinking too. Due to the current complexity of the team and the nature of its components, achieving the playoffs will not be by way of growth and maturation but rather the same "whole as greater than the sum of its parts" process that has made overachievement this franchise's calling card in recent years. That is not of much benefit for the future. For this season to be considered a success, we have to come away with something tangible that impacts our aspirations in the grander scheme. The sad irony is that I think the worst case scenario is by far the likeliest to occur. I can absolutely see this team winning 40-45 games on the strength of heart and determination, keeping McGrady but with no signs of a return to dominance, and with Brooks remaining inconsistent and failing to emerge. I would put those odds at an overwhelming 75% though I pray I'm wrong.
a success would be tmac coming back, having a great year, making the playoffs, getting out of the the first round again, and of course anything further would be even better
