Voted Myself Great. 5'9 Positives: I run on my competitive drive and desire to win. Good at moving without the ball, can penetrate to the basket, and drain the open 3s. Pretty crafty and can be a dominant offensive threat. Negatives: No post moves, not a great play maker but can run the offense/distribute the ball, tends to hold the ball for too long at times, has unnecessary forced turnovers. Defensive wise, I don't play tight D, but I try to close up driving and passing lanes. I play best with people who share the ball as I believe it builds up confidence and team cohesion. Playing with people who can take over the game single handily is nice, but then it's not as fun.
You keep STATS when you go to the black top? Only a SITH deals in absolutes. I can outrebound the taller guys out there and I'm a 5'8 skinny Mexican that weighs but a buck o five. See the D in my nickname? It also stands for "you won't score easily."
Despite the fact that I haven't played in 10 years and am completely out of shape and probably wouldn't last 3 points, I vote for the first option. Why? It's the internet.
When I was like 20 years old I was in great shape and I had a pretty nice crossover and could get to the rack easily, man... I need to get back to that.
I'm somewhere between the "good" to "great" categories. Strengths: Great Speed: Aaron Brooks-esque Unlimited Endurance: I ran Cross Country in high school Very Good Defender Good Passer Weaknesses: I'm only 5'9", ~150 lbs I've fractured my legs several times; sort of injury prone Streaky shooter My vertical isn't what it used to be
I used to play high school basketball, these days I would say I am good. Stregths: Love to play D Decent Jumper Left handed, but can go right just as good. I think I have fairly good basketball IQ Weaknesses: 5'9 Can't jump too high Not known for strength
Average. I think basketball comes down to confidence. That's something I lack when I play pick up games at the gym, but I do have good games when no one's really watching and I'm playing with people I'm comfortable with. This also applies to me driving to the rim, which I'm totally against doing in big games. Another thing I think is having court vision. I lack that completely, and I think it comes down to executing fundamentals with ease, and paying attention to what's there. Anyone have tips on how to improve? Good thread, btw.
Strengths: Good Defense 3-pt shot (around the 3-pt and mid range) Floater (Rafer Alston inspired me) Catch and Shoot Weaknesses: Bad down low (tendency to foul) Handles
Weaknesses: Size - I'm only 5'8'' Strength - I'm not very strong, i'm not very heavy. I'm about 135-139 lbs. Shooting - I don't shoot well. I guess I never developed a shot, because I never got to shoot the ball. Strengths: Long arms - I said i'm only 5'8'' but people think I'm taller, like 5 10, or even 6 feet. I guess the arms help. It helps with blocking shots. Vertical Leap - This isn't true anymore. I used to have a pretty decent vertical leap. The leap, with the long arms help me block shots. If I could just learn to shoot the damn ball better.
5'7" 145ish lbs Strengths: Encouragement Don't mind wearing a mascot suit Fast water bottle refill-er Always have an assortment of Band-aids in the car. Free throws Weaknesses: Scoring Passing Rebounding Defense Low basketball IQ Average hustle. I believe that counts as "below average"
I'm 6'4" and used to have a decent post up game and was an above average player when on the court for pickup games against other band nerds in high school. Now that I have the back of someone 3x my age, my game is non-existent.
