He is just saying that because he is a die hard democrat and instead of voting for someone who will save this country he only sees propaganda with his built in woke goggles...

A more competent Trump, and probably a less overtly religious Bush.

I actually think Trump and DeSantis are going to split the vote, and we're going to end up with either a complete outsider like Tucker Carlson (who is probably the scariest option) or an uninspiring option who completely ***** the bed in the general election...which probably would mean the GOP will move further right in 2028.

DeSantis seems like the favorite now, but that's what we all said about Jeb(!) and Marco Rubio. I imagine the primary is going to be headlined by:
    Trump
    DeSantis
    Carlson
    an evangelical Senator

with the usual clown car of random politicians, business people.

Is Trump gonna die in the next 2 years or not run? What evidence is there that he would beat Trump in a primary?

OP is already trying to associate DeSantis as close to Trump as possible.

I distinctly remember Bush being labeled as worst president ever during his presidency. It took a Trump for the left to admit Bush had his flaws, but we could do much worse.

I expect no different of the next Republican president.

Worst is highly subjective. Trump is the most unpresidential President in decades, if not ever. Unfortunately there are worse situations out there than being unpresidential.

Well at the time, Bush had led us to a disastrous war in the Middle East, oversaw a huge recession (although a lot of the conditions for that started under Clinton), and was generally seen as incompetent. Unless you're a major history buff, most Americans don't really know anything about Presidents besides the one they lived under (or the big names like Washington, Lincoln). It's completely disingenuous to dismiss criticisms of Bush as liberal hysteria...but we both know you're going to do that anyway so IDK why I bother replying.

I did not dismiss anything except calling him the worst president.

Bush isn't the worst president because 1) as I said, it's subjective. 2) as you put it, we did not live under every president. There were some really bad presidents.

This is why your point fails. Your two biggest criticisms are strawman. America wanted war. Congress gave us war. Bush did not cause 911 as you implied. As the recession, which you admit to, was largely out of his control. There is no single point or group that causes or prevent recessions.
You also point out that he is seen as incompetent. You are quick to make that judgment but the Rebublicans do the same exact thing. Criticize Biden that he is senile and is completely clueless. But if you visited Biden now, and Bush ever, you will see both of these men as very competent and intelligent.

Anyone can take snapshot of the worst moments of your life, put them on prime time Fox and CNN and make you look like your current argument.

Wrong war. I distinctly remember the American public did NOT want war in Iraq and many of the predictions experts made about it being a disaster came true.

Of course, as we all know now, somehow nobody (including politicians) supported the Iraq war in 2003. Bush also did a lot more than just that, including:
    - Patriot Act
    - Extrajudicial killings, torture which set dangerous precedents that have continued sense.
    - No Child Left Behind, his big ticket legislation, did not improve education standards.
    - Withdrew from the Kyoto Protocool
    - Oversaw mismanagement of Katrina

I don't think that puts Bush in the bottom 5, but he's definitely a below average President. I will say, to his credit, he seemed mostly out of his depth. He ran nasty campaigns in 2000/2004 (especially against Sen. McCain), but he didn't inflame tensions after 9/11 the way Trump would have. I also think Bush's presidency in many ways got hijacked by Cheney and chickenhawks like John Bolton in both foreign and domestic policy. His public diplomacy was also a little worse than just a CNN/Fox News compilation of low-lights...not that Biden or Carter were any better at that aspect.

DeSantis is Trump without the Twitter account*, but Trump's most passionate supporters love his brashness on Twitter and elsewhere. DeSantis would be the more-palatable-to-the-establishment Trump, because he would more closely follow their decorum. But I don't think that necessarily makes him better.

*I realize Trump isn't on Twitter, but you get the point.

Imagine trotting out Biden again or Kamala Harris (who couldn't even succeed in primaries). DeSantis can practice his speech now if he wants. They ran off Tulsi who was their only chance. She saw the light at the end of the tunnel though. Kamala Harris....lmao

I was reading the New Yorker profile of DeSantis and he's certainly ambitiuos and capable enough to be President. I think he will be far more competent than Trump and likely will respect norms more than Trump. I think if he lost an election I don't think he would attempt anything like Jan. 6th. I also don't think he would engage in the self-enrichment and using the government for his and his family's benefit as much as Trump has.

What is interesting about DeSantis is that his first year as governor he actually did reach across the aisles and addressed things like climate change and worked with Democratic mayors. Even during the first month of the pandemic he followed CDC recommendations regarding dealing with Covid including with shutdowns and masks mandates. What's changed DeSantis is that he felt that taking a hard right turn was the path to power in prestige and as such demonizing Fauci and going against CDC policy not only fit his political leanings but made him more prominent.

From the New Yorker profile it's possible a President DeSantis might be most like Richard Nixon. A very driven politician who is openly very ideological but smart enough to tactically engage in issues from the other side. Also it sounds like DeSantis isn't very personable and very uncomfortable with back slapping and glad handing. Since his college days he seems more interested in how people can advance him rather than am being sociable.

I don't know DeSantis too much to comment. But yeah, every politician on the right that wants to win has to take a damn hard right turn. The one thing I don't like (or what I see as potentially very dangerous) is him using government power to suppress speech.
