Oswalt did not have groin problems last season. The surgery after the 2003 season fixed that problem. He did have problems with his rib cage last season and he pitched through it. Either way, neither injury is one that is mechanical in nature. If it was his shoulder or elbow (neither of which he has ever had problems with) then that would be an issue.

To answer the main idea of the thread, yes, I am just as excited this year as I have been every spring since I became an Astros fan in 1980. I don't care if they go 0-162. I will still watch every game on tv or go to games everytime I'm in Houston. I will still cheer for them like I did when I was 10. That's just me, though.

Me too. I was really pumped up for last season when we got Clemens. I never wanted to miss a game, and the only times I did was when I couldn't watch it. (no Cable ....out of country etc.)

But now. I am PUMPED again! I can't wait. I want to see what Pettitte can bring to the field for us.

    Let's go Stros!

    ROOT FOR THE GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD GUYS!

In other news, I was watching some of the Mets-nationals earlier today and watched Carlos rip a single and eventually come around to score...sigh:(

not nearly as excited as last year (duh). i cant remember a single season - regardless of sport - that i anticipated more than the Stros last year. just 100% excitement. last year was AWESOME, moreso in the 2nd half, obviously.

it'll be hard to match the end of our season and our postseason from last year. that's top 3 Houston sports experiences for me, no doubt about it.

But i really do wanna see what our young guys can do.... specifically Burke and Lane. and of course i wanna see if Lidge and Backe can bring their A games like they did in the playoffs.

    Go 'Stros!

I'm hoping what we have lost in offense will be made up for in the return of Pettite and therefore, improved pitching.

Yeah thats true. If they make some kind of major trade in June or July the number can change but if they stay with this squad I can't see more than 84 or 85 wins.

I'm excited, the first spring training game is this Thursday at 12pm (I love noon games during the week) and I can't wait for Opening Day.

    Go Astros

Is 740 carrying all of spring training? I think I remember another station carrying some.

I am 0% un-excited about this upcoming season. Geez, I didn't realize how freaking much last season's amazing run has spoiled Astros fans. You can't expect that kind of excitement and potential out of your team every year, and if you do, then become a Red Sox or Yankee fan. Getting pumped about an Astros season is not just about focusing on how deep they might get into the playoffs, or even if they will make it. It's also about watching young talent develop, seeing how certain managerial philosophies play out over the course of the season, and taking excessive glee out of your team beating their rivals, even if it is meaningless in the grand scheme of things (playoffs).

I'm totally pumped about this year...and I'm even expecting Clemens to fall off significantly due to age. I don't care if he does, it will still be a fun ride. I'm particularly interested in Adam Everett's progression at the plate, Burke and Lane's ability to put it together on the big league stage and Backe's performance after his monster playoff outing. I also want to see how Garner's managing style works for this team long term. Everyone kind of looked at him as a savior last season (him and The Son of a b****tran), but he came in right before the team really hit its stride. It will be fun, that much I know.

790 will carry the weekday games like they did last year... and it won't be so weird this year, because they're now a sports station.

We could be projected to be in the NL Central cellar this season, and I'd still be excited. I love baseball season.

i hear ya...but the regular season is actually important in baseball. they don't invite in every team and their dog to the playoffs. the regular season is the deal in baseball.

That, and baseball is just the best game in the world (with all due respect to basketball and the beloved Houston Rockets).

I'd love it if baseball season lasted all year. If winter baseball were televised, I'd watch it. I go to little league games, and my kids aren't even 4 years old yet!
