I think Yao has a high threshold on pain. This means he could withstand a high degree of pain and play through it. This indicates his strong will but it could aggravate any minor injury he has sustained.

I believe these 24 games are going to show RA that Yao doesn't need to play 40 minutes a night for Rox to win. 30 minutes a night will be fine.

    Prevent stress fractures:

1.) Rest, proper diet, ice, etc.
2.) Proper shoes that match the way you run and your activity
3.) Properly alight the anterior and posterior muscles in your lower legs

Listen: I'VE HAD STRESS FRACTURES IN MY LEFT FOOT BEFORE. I got it from running and stairs. Stress fractures aren't a foggy science, they are very well documented in the history of the anatomy.

"BUT I WANNA SEE HOW WE CAN PREVENT STRESS FRACTURES!!!"

Stop. Please. You're wasting your time. Yao will find out how to do so from people smarter, better, more experienced, and more knowledgeable than you. I repeat, this thread does nothing but perpetuate frustration.

    "IF THERE'S A WILL THERE'S A WAY!!!"

And grow up please. It's nice that you have will, but will your will, my will, and every other Rockets fan's will create a way for Yao to return before the playoffs?

(seeing how naive your train of thought is, I might as well tell you now that my last sentence was a rhetorical question -- please don't answer it lest make yourself more a fool)

you rerally don't "feel" the stress fracture when it happens. it usually happens as an accumulations of repetative trauma to the bone. for instance it is common in military when the march for long periods of time, banging their feet on the ground, or middle aged women who want to loose weight and start a sudden excersise program. they usaully come to office sometimes a month after with a foot that swells and bothers them for no reason. Also most of the time you can not see an stress fracture in an xray, until it starts to heal. usually 2-3 weeks after it has happened. I am curious in Yao if they saw anything or not. i fthey did you can auume the injury happened 2-3 weeks before that xray. My thought is since they did an MRI, they did not see anything and had to order an MRI. also i doubt they suspected a fracture at first, since they did the MRI. If they had thought it was a stress fracture a CT or a Bone scan would have been ordered first.
I think they did not see anything in the xray, ordered the MRI and then they saw fluid ( edema) in the bone.

BTW I am a Board Certified Foot and Ankle surgeon so i don't pull these outta of my ..........

From the press conference they mentioned taking a x-ray a couple of weeks ago where they found nothing so they continued treating it as a sprain.

In an interview Yao offered this:
    http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=3498194&postcount=1
"I originally thought it (the pain in my ankle) was due to bone spurs; Keith Jones (Rockets’ trainer) also thought it was due to bone spurs.

...according to the team doctor and staff, they discovered that maybe I got my ankle injured as early as November 6 in that competition with Dallas Mavericks. That was the first loss of the Rockets of this season. I fell onto the floor, and stepped onto the foot of DeSagana Diop; so it is almost 4 months from then to now."

Your answer is not the focus of this thread. The hope to find a solution is not for finding a way to get Yao to return before playoffs. It's for preventing it from recurring in future. If you think trying to prevent it from stress fracture recurring is a waste of time, that's your opinion. Though it is unfortunate to hear you had such fracture before, you could cut down on going up and down the stairs, but in my opinion, professional athlete do not have this choice without affecting their performance.
Finally, Yao may find out how to do so from people smarter, better, more experienced, and more knowledgeable than me but there definitely no reason why this cannot discuss in a forum where some fans maybe an expert in this area also. I have stated many times that I am worried about the recurrence
of such fracture for Yao and WHEN DID I SAY I WAS AN EXPERT. I hope this discussion will gather ideas and possible solutions from fans who may be an expert in this area and you kept saying about I am not an expert.

Dude. Is English your second language? Are you in middle school? If you can honestly answer yes to either of those two questions, I would like to stop now and apologize for disparaging you.

But if you can't answer yes, I'm stopping now anyway and remind you that this thread is ineffectual, not amusing, and stupid. Stress fractures happen, Yao will heal, life goes on, this thread is trash.

And by the way, you're right when you said you're not an expert. And you're an idiot for thinking that I ever said you thought you were an expert. Reading is a valuable skill, you might want to master that before you do any writing.

I think it's better for you to stop if you think it's a waste of time to discuss on preventing recurrence of Yao' stress fracture.
