In my origianl response to haven's insult, I left out one line which I regret now. It pointed out that these "hollow narratives" were not being articulated by policy-makers. They were not in any way part of policy formation. They came to light 1) in in a response to a war protester and 2) my and DaDa's eavesdropping at "Saving Private Ryan." My citation had nothing to do with justifying this war. I don't think DaDakota's did either. We were just recounting a bittersweet memory that shared common roots. haven craps on it to puff himself up.
I don't think so. I think many people have used stories like these to somehow justify this war and to fuel hatred for anti-war protesters. That's what he was crapping on, IMO.
I just wanted to relay my experiences. I think it is appalling that people are trying to minimize the sacrifices that others have gone through in prior wars. I was recounting a personal story, take it or leave it, but don't downplay it. That is disrespectful of the sacrifices they made. DD
Hatre, huh? Then there must be some widespread violence against these anti-war protesters. Where is it? Some of the protesters are credible; some are laughable. The students are the most laughable IMO.
I don't mind the protests, it is a right granted to all Americans. However stopping traffic is not a protest, it is a crime. We have rules in this country and if they break them, they should spend some time in the slammer. Protest peacefully, no problem, get in peoples way or break the law....become bubba's b****. DD
