get rid of it. have each event count a certain number of points. the last event being a single quarter game between each team and create a final four type of atmosphere. the team with the most points gets homecourt advantage in the playoffs or Ws added or Ls erased. this way theres smthg to gain and lose. or keep it east vs west and winner gets home court advantage in the finals. it's like a junior high school with a bunch of spoiled kids. with nothing to gain or lose, there's no incentive to care.
Don´t understand the lack of creativity, man that shannon alley oop could´ve been good if he would´ve did it over derek fisher. Or Derozans "free throw line" dunk, why not jump over someone instead of doing the same **** we´ve seen in the 70s/80s? Some people here blame the superman cape dunk or geralds cup cake dunk, but that were REALLY entertaining and involved skill. I think they should get all stars like Lebron, Vince, Gay, Durant, Amare, Josh Smith, J.R. Smith etc. That **** yesterday could´ve marked the end of the glory all star saturday.
Make it similar to the AS game. Fans select the top two performers the next two are chosen by someone else, possibly the players. Then, you must compete unless you are injured.

The last good NBA contest was 2000 with Vince, Francis, McGrady, Stackhouse...etc. Who were those guys last night... D-League players -- every dunk was weak.
This I don't know about the last statement though. Guy Dupuy has done some things I have never seen before. The dunk contest can still be exciting.
u should let the "experienced" judges do their thing to see who wins and get rid of the "UNexpeienced" fans voting.
My idea is to let people from other leagues join in. Maybe d-league or international players could hold one or two spots. Maybe even a college spot or someone just fan voted in or something. Kinda like an NBA vs. the world dunk contest. Perhaps it could make some of the NBA players show a little pride and at least look like they care and try to represent the league. It'd be a little crazy with a d-league player winning the slam dunk contest if it happened but they're cramming old people and women into the all star festivities so whatever.
Wallace, Brown, and Derozan have no showmanship. At least Nate got the crowd fired up for a few of his dunks, and despite his actual dunks not being that special, they energy from the crowd helped. It's like peer pressure towards everyone watching "ahh the crowd is screaming so the dunk must be good!". Wallace, Brown, and Derozan were very nonchalant in their dunks...
Just bringing in stars won't help. You need people who will be creative in their dunks and actually take it seriously. Dwight's sticker dunk, the superman dunk; Iggy's alley-oop off the back of the backboard dunk (AI to AI2); Gerald Green's cupcake dunk. Off the top of the head, there really have been some new/innovative dunks. It's just that people don't seem to care enough about winning to invest some time/thought into it. So either up the purse or do something to attract more creativity and expand the field to at least 6 again.
Thank you! The guy always get the sympathy vote, even though he was the best dunker last night because everyone else sucked, Howard should have won last year. Also, bring in guys that have charisma and that actually WANT to win. Charisma and innovativeness is what brings that buzz from the audience. When you think of some of the best dunk performances in recent years, you think of Dwight the last few years, Andre Iggy a few years back, and Vince Carter's hands down best slam dunk performance ever back in Golden State when he was sticking his entire arm through the rim. Shannon Brown can jump through the roof and he was my dark horse, but not only did he not have any swag, he displayed the the originality of a guy ordering a peanut butter and jelly sandwich at a Jason' Deli. Wallace looked old and disinterested, infact he and Brown looked like they were going to fall asleep after they finished their first two "dunks". I think the contest will rebound next year though. If you saw Howard in the audience, he was basically squirming and embarassed about how bad everyone was doing. He was basically kicking himself for not entering (he probably knows that it's rigged for Nate anyway). Haha and the TNT guys ripping the contest was hilarious! I was more intrigued watching 7 guys I have never heard of before skate around an ice rink 20 times than that "slam dunk contest". I think the NBA will make great efforts to reach out to some of the more charismatic dunkers next year to rebound from this debacle.
There were a few gems in there (2000), but yeah the contest has sucked overall for a long time. The college dunk contest is a lot more fun -- more contestants, faster pace, usually better dunks...etc.
