Is that realistic? The cost of doing so would be incredibly high, not the mention what to do with children whose parents don't qualify for a license - the foster care system is awful in this country.

Exactly it happened in the past. Its nothing to do but look forward.

In your mentorship idea the government can have more social workers to go in these homes to try to educate and change behavior

Honestly plenty of single moms do a great job of raising kids. Single homes is not what perpuates the cycle of poverty but there is a strong correlation

It is, the data is clear that single homes do, as do broken homes. I don't think the people brought in to mentor children should be the same as the folks who are trying to help parents. It's a different skill set. Children have different needs.

The best programs for kids are afterschool programs with entities such as the boys and girls club. Kids go to these programs for a few hours a week and spend time in an environment with other kids and mentors. They do everything from playing games to getting help with their homework. It's a safe positive environment for them where they can learn the right developmental skills as well as begin to believe in their future.

I think that it would be wise for the federal gov't to take what is working and expand it to all disadvantaged children.

It would never fly - never with anti-nanny state conservatives and libertarians, and unlikely with democrats either. I know I wouldn't support it.

Each generation does have more and more distraction and different challenges, but I don't think the issue is motivation as much as beliefs.

    Values stem from beliefs.

They should but it doesn't always flow.

Most peop believes "smart" people do better but everyone doesn't "value" education

You are confusing personal values with the idea of valuing something.

Personal value = honesty for example. There isn't a measurement associated with it.
Valuing an education means it has a value that can be measured - for example in terms of the income it will generate.

Wow. There are r****ds on both sides of the political spectrum. This one almost balances out one of the r****ds that think the election was stolen somehow.

So it's a myth because this guys says so? I wouldn't engage with him either.

Just curious. Do you believe it is a myth? Are you endorsing his opinion? Because there are only two avenues to address the median white household owning 170 grand in wealth and the median black household has 17 grand in wealth. Either its a consequence of systemic racism or the median white person inherently works 10x harder or 10x smarter or some combination of both than the median black person due to superior culture/genetics.

And when conservatives claim its the latter and get offended for being called racist, it perplexes me. Like defend your position why it isn't systemic racism but you(not you specifically) literally believe white culture is inherently superior. That is abject racism.

I'm just trying to understand YOUR position here or if you have one.
