I work with about 4-5 frat guys. They act like your stereotypical fratties, and there's nothing wrong with that. 2 of them are KAs and they're nice to me, but who knows what people think in the back of their minds or when you're not in the room.

Frats are the same everywhere, imo.

chance, like you said, not all frat boys are racist. In fact, I went to to a KA rush party as a freshman ('98), and I didn't get any weird looks or anything. But the racism does go on. It's not just at Auburn or A&M.

Agreed. The fijis/KAs at UT are the same as the ones at ATM, Auburn or Yale for that matter.

    Black Colleges

One way to solve this would be to close down PV and have those students attend A&M right Timing?

It sure would. Then A&M wouldn't be 85% white and it'd be less likely that students would think this is acceptable.

    Frat guys

You know, back when I was in school we used to drink 40s (cause we was poor, in a college sort of way) and listen to music and such, and it was just a party. We lived next to a frat house and they were plain scared of us. Not in some macho, kick your ass sort of way, but in an insecure, ignorant, "man these guys are freaks - why are you listening to Butthole Surfers and not Pearl Jam" sort of way.

These guys make me want to PUKE. I hate them. I hate their whole putrid subculture. I hate their fip flops, their bent pointy baseball caps, sideburns and matching necklaces. I hope they end up in a real ghetto some day and find out how funny it is.

One more reason to hate A&M (and frats) with a seething passion.

The incident that you are thinking of was a different party. The one that you are thinking of was very tastless and did create a controversy around campus about 3 years ago, but is not the regular party that I was thinking of. Im not going to say the fraturnity that threw the party on a public message board but it was called 40's on 4th.

Boy have we got some f***ing idiots around here. Although I don't condone nor defend the actions of my Aggie bretheren who came up with this idea, but maybe some foolish asses should use your heads. Ok, so we all can agree we don't want to be pigeonholed or stereotyped right? So, think about this, this was one dorm, and in dorms, there are resident advisors (RA's) who are responsible for the actions of the residents. No resident (which are likely freshmen) would ever have the power or responsisbility to throw this kind of party. The blame falls flatly on the RA's since they actually set up activities for their residents...get that straight right now. Next, you, condesending arrogant, ignorant assholes don't even know how many people were planning on attending this party. This could have been the most bunk party in the world with only the RA's there playing with themselves and you still would not have a problem blasting A&M. Truth is, Walton is a dorm of maybe 200 students and although, they are students of A&M, if you would take your f***ing teabags or bevo horns out of your asses, maybe u would realize that 200 students out of 44,000 hardly represents A&M as a whole...oh and by the way, there likely wasn't going to be 200 people there FWIW.

Point being, events like this unfortunately occur on many campus' around the U.S. but b/c we have some obsessed douche bags who's primary goal is to put down A&M instead of maybe call out those dumbasses who are actually responsible, just totally burns my ass. Guaranteed, those responsible will be held accountable, but in the meantime, take that stick out of your ass that is reaching all the way up to your brain and giving you your personal labotomy and quit trying to find anything negative at Texas A&M and using it as a personal attack against all of those who attend. All of us who attend A&M may be called Aggies, but a small minorty truly can't understand the concept of BEING an Aggie and therefore aren't truly Aggies.

Because of the liberal spin machine, A&M, the percieved conservative school will be vilified in the news media to discredit us. Hopefully most can see from their college experience that some college groups did not take the best interests of the university into account, but did they represent the entire student body...absoulutely not. So get off your high horse and use your damn brains and maybe you might understand what I'm trying to explain to you.

THE conservative school? It is in Texas, you know. Texas Tech, SMU, TCU, and Baylor could all be considered as or more conservative than ATM (I think it is Baylor and SMU that are fighting over who will house the future GWB presidential library - anyone know?). I am not including the really small ones, either.

So cheer up, ATM is special. :)

    I actually went. . . . .
I was there for the Jungle party
where they had the Pledges dress up like 'natives'
while the big brothers chased and captured them
in a reinactment of the capturing of slaves

I hope people remember that this was ONE dorm that did this and not a widespread university thing. I heard about it yesterday when it was in the school newspaper. I definately don't condone it. There was a former Yell leader in the article, Arouna Davies, who is black, and he said that they treated him like a brother at last years similar party. This little snippet here does disturb me though:

"I didn't realize it was a big deal. I had never heard of this (problem) before," said Brian Cassidy, a sophomore industrial distribution major and Walton hall resident.

Cassidy said the party is an annual event he attended last year.

Everyone dressed up at the party, including African Americans, he said.

"People were wearing afros and even dressed up as KKK members," he said, referring to the Ku Klux Klan. "I didn't assume there was a problem with it (the party)."

Nice way to stereotype. I now see you in the exact same light as the r****ds who are holding this party.

They stereotype themselves, they don't need me to do it. Thats the whole idea of frats, buying and conforming your way into a group with a set image...

At every school you have a few idiots that probably won't be around for their sophmore year. My friends and I used to make fun of them, I just wish they wouldn't give our fine university such a bad reputation.

1000 years from now in another country, the ghetto party will be the same damn thing as a toga party.

no one gets appreciated in their own time.

LOL...students at PV going to aTm...laughable.

Well, as a black person, I'm not so much offended about the concept of the party, it's the fact that it's on MLK Day. WTF is that about? MLK wasn't "ghetto" or whatever the hell people use to describe urban blacks. He was a well-spoken, dignified man who did only good for this country.

I know many blacks who go to UT in Austin. They've never experienced racism there. I don't know. I went to PV last year. Not surprisingly, the white people there are very nice (all .2 percent of them).

White people are cool...the racist hicks are not.
