Wow, really? So it is a real school...but is it a real university?

Well, I went to A&M between 1997 and 2001 and had a job locked up in Washington DC before I graduated.

"Real university" or not, everything seemed to work out just fine for me.

And for the record, I never even knew "ghetto parties" existed until today. The number of kids that went to that stupid party probably could fit into a classroom on the A&M campus.

Ah, the annual "incident at A&M" story.

And right in time for recruiting, too.

Oh, 'tis a conspiracy! Some UT students enrolled to make A&M look bad! ;)

Not that I agree with them but, the concept of a getto party actually pretty common. There was even one at baylor of all places. The horrable thing about the ATM party is that it is on MLK day making it an obvious racist statement. This story makes me hate ATM even more.

Who wants to bet that these same "ghetto party" students would become way, way touchy if you made fun of the following:

    1) The bonfire (not the accident, just the bonfire)
    2) Revellie (or whatever the Collie's name is)
    3) the Corps

Totally agree. A&M students get touchy about the dumbest things. Like walking on the grass. What is that about. "Living Memorial".

While this "ghetto party" on MLK Day is disturbing, Aggies generally are very friendly. Although they go to a predominantly white school - 85%- I've never heard any of my buddies that go there tell me about racism on campus. However, the fact that an on campus dorm is staging such a party, makes it even more disturbing. At UT, everyone knows that some frats such as Kappa Alpha (southern order) and Fiji are notorious for being racist. For example, KA made all their pledges paint their faces black and serve the frat members.

Also, for what it's worth, I went to a party there a couple of years back and saw the strangest things. One typical Aggie bubba - tight jeans, skoal in back pocket, cutoff t-shirt, barbwire tribal tattoo on arms, and crew cut - was dating a not so attractive Asian girl. Furthermore, another bubba was with a Muslim girl with her head covered. This girl, however, had a beer in her hand! Funny stuff.

Also, I got some action that night as well. I hardly ever hook up when I go to parties, but I got a little wasted that night. I ended up getting head in the bathroom from some white Aggie slut. Keep in mind that I am of Bangladeshi descentHOW'S THAT FOR AGGIE DIVERSITY?

Just because a few individuals have painted the Aggie community in a bad light, doesn't mean the whole school's like that. The race relations there are very good for the most part.

I vaguely remember this incident at Baylor being a "barrio" party in which they made fun of hispanics. Guys were coming with greased back hair and some of the chicks stuffed their shirts to look pregnant. They got some heat for that. You're right though, this incident is not A&M specific. It happens all over.

I will agree on the UT deal. I was there when the KAs were giving themselves a bad reputation. UT likes to pump itself up as the progressive Texas school but it has had its fair share of incidents.

Well, it does tend to discourage the burning crosses that would otherwise highlight MKL Jr. Day on campus.

LOL! I'll admit, she was f*ckable, but not exactly a hottie. Let's just say I'd probably double bag it if I were to ever put the wood to her (which BTW, I never did).

I wonder if this would be news if this took place at UT or better yet Prairie View A&M?

I'm not defending the "ghetto party" because it is highly probable that there were racial intentions involved given that A&M is 85% white, but somehow, I doubt it this would be news at a more diverse or predominantly black university.

Also, I wonder if people were painting themselves like the Dartmouth morons? If they were, then this really is a major problem.

At Auburn University in 2001, some members of Beta Theta Pi dressed in Blackface and Klan outfits during a Holloween party. This goes on alot more than you think.
