Posey is just awesome on the break. Great finisher. Also, he is so freaking quick. Saw him sprint like a gazell on the break. Then saw him appear out of nowhere underneath the basket on defense to intercept a pass. What a defender! The best way to use him? Just put him on the floor for 30 minutes a night at the SF spot. Let him run the wing on the break and put him on the other team's SG or SF, whoever is the most lethal. Actually, it seems there are using him pretty close to this right now. As he continues to get to know this team, he will be even better. I have no complaints about his play. He brings it every night. So far it looks like a very good trade.
UGH! Stupid Texans...Posey is bad for Mobley and Francis. He is conducive to a style of basketball that will run this team into the ground...since his starting, Mobley and Francis selfishness has eveolved into an unprecedented state...if we had no Yao Ming...then I agree Posey would be good for this team cuz he can capitalize ona lot of the trash Mobley and Francis do. However, Mobley and Francis should be getting away from this hectic, sloppy basketball, and we need to focus on a sound, motion offense...cuz honestly, this is an offense that can have 5 threats on court at all times. I like Posey...but definetly not with Mobley and Francis...bench Mobley for scoring bunches vs. second string, and atleast give the Rice/Posey on court duo a chance...it will make this team better. Posey is good, but Rice is good for this team...amd both of them on the court simultaneously, which by the way has not yet happened this year, will be interesting and, IMO, pay worth dividends.
I see what you're saying and after thinking about it, here's a 9-man rotation that may be worth trying: Starters: Steve - PG Posey - SG Rice - SF Griffin - PF Yao - C Rotation guys: Moochie Mobley T-Mo Cato
Let me just mention one play against the Lakers that stuck in my mind. Posey took a bad shot. It missed badly (airball?). The Lakers quickly passed the ball up court to the left corner for a wide open 3-pointer (I don't remember who the guy was, probably Fisher). Out of nowhere, Posey zoomed in and sealed off the shot. He almost trapped Fisher in the corner. Fisher was barely able to dribble out and reset the play. I bet very few people noticed that play. But to me, that showed me what kind of player Posey was. If Francis made a bad shot. He'd run back and make a foul out of frustration. Others would shake their heads in self pity and slowly trot back. Not Posey. He just hustled back and made a sound defensive play. That shows his tough-mindedness and maturity.
I was very vocal in my displeasure at the trade back when it happened. Since then, Posey has made me a believer. The guy's athleticism and hustle is awesome. And he has been a much better shooter than I expected. The guy doesn't bog down the offense and knows when to take his shot. I certainly hope we can keep Posey long term. He should be considered one of our core players. We got a real steal when we traded for him.
