Why would this be an act of desperation? House is a guy that can shoot and score which is something we need. Seriously, name a better player that is available right now, who we could sign for the minimum considering that it's all we can pay right now. If we sign him and it doesn't work out then what's the big deal, either he sits on the bench or we cut him.

I didn't mention Yao missing any games or even a game.

You said he couldn't play through pain yet he has NEVER missed a game despite the things I mentioned above. I don't understand where you could ever get this assumption.

Some players can play through an injury, some can't. It's not a put down

It was obvious Yao's game was affected by his injury (especially his ft shooting) earlier on.

The Rockets would be wise to cut Gaines or Lue, and bring in House to backup TMac. With Jimmy hurt, we really lose a lot of scoring. House brings immediate offense, something we need.

TMac played 44 minutes lastnight, a guy like House could give TMac some time to rest.

House is a SG in a PG's body. He could do well as a shooter while the ball is brought up from the otherside of the backcourt.
T-Mac and JJ are inconsistent shooters and Padgett/Boki can make only occasional 3's. Gaines can't shoot at all. None of our PG's can shoot well either.
What's the harm in getting House even if we have a full roster.
Our shooting is as bad as our rebounding.

This just sucks. If only Ward hadn't gotten a freakin 3-year deal. If paying off guaranteed contracts weren't an issue Ward and Lue would be out on the street and House would be wearing Rockets red already.

I would love nothing more than to see Ward get cut and/or Lue get traded or cut. Unfortunately, I understand the reasoning why Ward can't get cut.

However, i'm not ready to give up on Gaines. I know he hasn't shown much but I watched him a lot in college and I hate to see us drop a guy with such a versatile all-around game. He has the potential to be a Jim Jackson clone, meaning he can play multiple positions. And believe it or not, he was an excellent shooter in college.

I just want to be as patient as possible.

There have been many of his type of player that got drafted high becuase of what they did in College. Unfortunatnly he hasn't shown that he can play at the NBA level. He doesn't get much time but he doesn't make the best of it either. He is a few years away from becoming a role player at Best.

I have a hard time conceeding he's not making the best of his time. As a Rocket, he's played in 4 games. 2 of them he didn't even attempt a shot, one he was 1-2 and then there's the 0-6 game against Philly. He's done a good job of playing within his role for the most part. He's contesting shots well, not turning the ball over, not attempting bad bad shots. He's an above average passer, his handle looks alright.

My point is, I would much rather see a guy come in and do all the little things than do what Eddie House would do and that's start jacking up shots the second he gets in the game.

Note: I am not opposed to signing House, but I have watched him play a lot and the "Poor Man's Iverson" label is right on the money.

based on your comparison of what you want i will agree with you. I don't want another player to come in here and jack shots at all. We need less of that and more people that will do the little things.

Yes Gaines has done that but he doesn't look to fluid or anything out there. He had this problem in Orlando as well. He couldn't really find a position to play well. That caused him to get little or no minutes on a Magic team that really didn't have anyone or had injured players.

When he was given a chance to shine over there he didn't really perform and basically stayed on the bench the rest of the year.

I agree he was basically garbage in Orlando. I also agree he does look uncomfortable on out on the floor at times and what you said about him never really finding a position he could play well is very true.

He's not a PG, there's really no way around that. However, when playing with T-Mac he wouldn't need to be a playmaker since T-Mac will handle the bulk of those duties. So ideally, I would like to see him be a reserve backup combo guard since on paper, we really have no backup to T-Mac. If he can start looking comfortable out there, he's going to eventually have a role on this team.

All I can do is hope for the best and see if this guy wants it bad enough.

He can have a role on this team but i honestly think based on his game that he should be behind Boki on the Depth chart. With Boki's Height he really causes a height mis match if he does come in for McGrady.

But then again this is JVG's team and who knows who plays and doesn't....

But based on play i think boki should be the one playing in the big guard lineup with McGrady and not Gaines or Bowen.

We're just wasting time with Gaines. If we can't develop Boki, what makes us think we can develop this guy? I'm sure he may have skills but we know Boki has skills. If we ain't gonna develop them then we might as well trade them and get something back.
