Do you honestly, like 100% actually, believe that is an apples to apples comparison? A bench player who filled in briefly, because the starter was injured vs. a guy replaced the guy in front of him (Lin), and has been the named starter for the past 2 years on a Western Conference playoff team.
Lol Wade can't even last 40 games througout the regular season. No way Miami doesn't offer Dragic the max. And even if Dragic is stupid enough to leave an extra year of max money on the table, Miami will go after more traditional PGs over Beverly.
Just in general, why would any FA this year sign a max deal? With the cap about to jump you'd think the agents would at least push this agenda. If it plays out there may be some good players out there to be had on the cheap for 1 year trial runs and gives each party time to see if its a fit.
If he can hover around 40% on 3's and defend like he can when healthy, great for our team without a doubt. We really need another facilitator though. Llull would be great.
why no just go and snag isiah homas he is better than llull most likely, especially at the NBA level. Keep bev and sign thomas.
Because you never know when you may pull a Wes Matthews. That dude was in line for huge money before his injury. Now who knows what teams will be willing to offer him. Or there are cases like Rajon Rondo who may or may not have game left in him, but because of a horrible situation in Dallas has cost himself tens of millions of dollars. Bottom line, when you have a chance at long-term, guaranteed money, it's not the worst idea in the world to take it. Just ask Chandler Parsons, Chris Bosh, and Carmelo Anthony who all went down with injuries this past season after signing huge extensions. Granted, sometimes you gamble and it pays off like with Jimmy Butler, but it's still a risky move.
I agree with Dallas, La, NYK, andc maybe Denver going after him. I think Miami has a comparable player in Mario Chalmers if Goran leaves. I could see NYK or LA assuming they don't draft a PG go with Beverly as a stopgap to try to maximize winning with Kobe and Melo. Dallas I definitely see the perfect fit if they keep Monta. Philly probably wouldn't want Beverly even if they don't already draft a PG. He would help them win some games, but it's not worth signing a role player like him to any sort of decent sized contract. Utah has a young PG rotation which I think they would like to see develop. But I see Beverly more as a PG to round out a roster kind of player. It's why I think the only team outside of the Rockets that would be seriously interested in him outside of us is Dallas.
He doesn't.... that's why he should start next to James... Start with PBev annoying the other teams pg and playing d (since Harden aint...).... then u bring in your 5M/yr scoring pg/6th man - early if Harden needs another creator or later when Harden sits... Bev should start - but shouldnt necessarily get the most minutes at the position...
Because they get an extra year at the current max versus 20% more per year in the summer of 2016? The arithmetic is not that hard. Plus there is the insurance factor of a signed deal. If an injury occurs the player still earns the value of his entire contract. On a one year deal a player suffering from a badly torn ACL the player is done earning money in the NBA. Risk/reward. It is both complex and simple.
At the end of the day... we NEED another playmaker who has OFFENSE in his blood. Harden can't do it all.
Only if you subscribe to the theory that ball-dominant players cannot adjust to each other. We've seen Harden, Westbrook, and Durant get to the finals by sharing the ball. LeBron and Kyrie, as well as LeBron and Wade shared the ball to much success. Let's not pretend like if somehow we were able to get Chris Paul for free we would be starting Bev over CP3 just because it means Harden can pound the rock more. Harden has played okay defense and there is no reason to believe he's not going to continue to improve on that end. If we had a Lawson or a surprisingly good Lull, we should absolutely start them next to Harden and only experiment with them off the bench if the offense stagnates to alternating ISO's.
It's pretty simple. We can't risk such a difference maker (defense/effort) getting injured before playoffs again. Let PB make his money (as long as we can really get Lull over here) and maybe Lawson?
