Rising candy costs due to inflation? Or parents not driving kids to other neighborhoods due to fuel shortage?
Another question: at what point do you stop answering the door? 9? 10? Also, do you open the door for a bunch of non-costumed teenagers at 10 PM?
I switched to giving out candy in middle school. Always had a ton of leftovers though at the end of the day and I'd have a supply of candies that would last me for a month. Great Success... Although I grew up in a mostly well off neighborhood in middle school, the kids always come up with the stupidest and ugliest costumes evarr. It's like the parents didn't give them any money to buy costumes and they had to makeshift one from trash bags or bedsheets.
I put 15 or older, but only because it was closest to what I wanted to post, which was "kids" who are out of high school. Those people should do what I did in the '60's and '70's, which was help organize a block party involving two houses across the street from each other, said event always being wild, crazy, costumed out the kazoo, and a high time for all.
Its because there was this one apartment by a friends house freshman year that had a sign on the door, and I decided to go read it. It said something to the effect of "do not ring our door bell. We do not celebrate Halloween because it is the day of Satan". Its stuck with my for 10 years now.
It was a blog about it being illegal to go after beyond 12 years of age that caused me to start this thread.
In my neighborhood we see a lot of parents who hold pillow cases expecting to get candy. They arent dressed up - just taking their kids around & expect candy for themselves. I think many may be new to this country and haven't figured out how Halloween works yet.
10th grade, and I'm about to go again this year. probably my last year though going trick o treating..haha
