Try this: Suave for Men 2 in 1 Shampoo / Conditioner plus dandruff control. It's great stuff, although I only have very minimal dandruff. I also heard that Apple Cider Vineagar was good if you've got bad scalp conditions:
The frequency with which you wash your hair depends on the condition of your hair. Basic guidelines are to wash your hair a few times a week for dry hair, and every day or every other day for oily hair. Completely agree... I have very dry and thick hair that I used to shampoo every time I showered. The result was so damaged that I couldn't get it to do anything without gel. Now I shampoo every 3 days or so and it's much more healthy looking and I no longer have to use gel.
I have really thick and curly hair. I tried washing it every day and it was just a freakin' wreck. I talked to a couple of stylists and they said that for hair like mine, I should only wash it every other time at the most - going a couple days wouldn't hurt it. When I wash it too often, it gets dry, frizzy and completely out of control. It causes my hair to break off more and thin out - something I found out when my hair was a LOT longer. In addition, it looks 100 times better the day after it was washed.
I just assumed everyone washes it evertime they bath, but apparently not...I guess its different for girls, but maybe not...
I wash my hair depending on what season it is and how much hell my hair has been through... In the winter, every 3-4 days, in the summer, every 2-3 days, and always right after being in the pool. I always use shampoo and a heavy conditioner, and I switch my shampoos and conditioners every other time or two I wash my hair (I've only started doing this for the past few years, and for some reason my hair is better off than when I just used one type) From the "proper hair care" rimbaud posted, I definitely need something with proteins, a lemon water rinse, and maybe even some henna every once in a while...
Wow! Props to the board again... In the past I would shampoo my hair every single time I showered regardless of it it had been like second shower of the day or something... Yesterday I read this thread, soI showered last night after playing basketball and shampoo'd because I was all sweaty and such, but this morning I didn't use shampoo as I would normally and it's worked wonders! Like Jeff mentioned, I also have thick, curly hair that just gives me hell sometimes, but today it was completely different... soft and flat and managable and all that good stuff... I wish I would have discovered this 10 years ago!
My hairdresser tells me to wash every other day......washing everyday is harmful to your hair. But of course there are instances when I just HAVE to wash it even if it's not a hair-washing day (ie. smoke, outside all day, sweaty).
