Shower everyday, but i wash my hair everyone 2-3 days. when you shampoo your hair, you deprive it of necessary oils needed to remain full and healthy. not only do these oils keep your hair healthy, they give the scalp moisture. with excessive washing, your scalp becomes drier increasing the chance and severity of dandruff.
Wow, I feel gross if I go most of the day without showering. Even if I'm just sitting around the house, usually by the afternoon I feel so greasy that I have to shower.
Not to be rude, but dandruff is not caused by a dry scalp... the cause of dandruff is unknown.. Some Doctors say it could even start because of a too oily scalp...
I thought I was the only one who knew the baking soda trick! I wash all hair at least once a day, and baking soda at least once a week, LOL Mr glyde!
I used to shampoo my hair every day but I don't anymore. Probably about every 2 to 3 days. Two reasons for that - one is that I don't have much hair to begin with (thanks male pattern baldness) and two I was told by a hairdresser that shampooing every day is bad for your hair.
I only shampooed my hair six times last year... Course thats cause I shave to the skin. I wash my head with plain soap and water.
I went to the most expensive haircut in my life and the 'stylist' told me the opposite. She was so surprised that I wash my hair every other day, and said greasy hair will cause baldness. I kind of believe her because she didn't try to sell me any shampoo after that. Is there a third opinion?
Homoerotica erectus never washed as much as we do and he had lots of hair, which does bring me to the question, if those ape-humans did bald, wouldn't that be kinda funny to look at.
LOL? WTF is "buildup"? Dudes, I know you're black (AnotherBrother, I've seen your just-woke-up-in-the-morning-and-picked-up-this-microphone photo on your site ), or african american, or whatever you call yourselves but... WTF is "buildup" and how do you get so much of it you have to take it out with Baking Soda? Have you seen the reaction of Baking Soda and Vinegar? Not good man... Anyway, I know I am getting racial here... I just wanted an explanation...
I'm white and I do the baking soda trick once a month... ever see ring around the tub from all the soap buildup in the bathtub after not cleaning it for few weeks?? Hair gets soap buildup too and you need to get it out every so often.. try it one time and see if you like it, works for me...
I did a search and found this, it might help some people. From Columbia University's Health Education Program:
This may gross you guys and gals out but I almost never shampoo my hair. I shower daily and use conditionr daily. I have extremely curly hair so the oils that are produced at the scalp don't travel the full length of my hair. Shampooing strips whatever oils are already there and makes my hair very difficult to manage. I didn't quit shampooing daily until fairly recently. I was browsing through a bookstore and found the book "Curly Girl" and the author was suggesting that the curlier you hair is, the less often you should use shampoo. Since then I've found that this is a fairly popular theory amoung stylist who specialize in this hair type. I do shampoo if I've been around cigaret smoke or to remove build-up but that works out to less than once a month.
Allrighty. I get dandruff easily, so I try to do Head And Shoulders often, if not every day or every time I shower. I will give the baking soda trick a whirl... Thanks. Sorry about the assumption. Don't know if it is good or bad.
I've been told that it's best for your hair if you switch shampoos often. Anyone know if this is true? Cause I've been using the same brand of shampoo as long as I can remember...
The reason baking soda reacts with vinegar is that they are, respectively, a weak base and a weak acid. When they react in a neutralization reaction, there happens to be a byproduct of carbon dioxide in the form of gas bubbles. That's why it looks more "exciting" than other neutralization reactions. Hair is slightly acidic with a pH around 5-6. Shampoos are usually formulated around pH 6, so as not to damage the cuticle of the hair. It seems that people's baking soda rinses must work because they have a higher pH and can react with shampoo or oil buildup. (likewise, lemon rinses have a lower pH...) It's probably not good for the hair to do it all the time, though. Just guessing on that part. Once a week is probably OK. Of course, if you have short hair (like most of you guys probably do), then it's not as big an issue because you don't have to keep the same individual pieces of hair healthy for years on end. My hair is: straight, medium to oily (why I need to wash it every day), and long (why I don't do much to it... would not want to cut it off).
