The first thing that popped in my mind when reading this was "My Cousin Vinny" when He is berating the guy on his grits cooking faster than everyone else's. Are we supposed to believe that your restroom defies all things rational and your towels do not get a mildew smell, even though they get wet just like everyone else's?

Just a heads up, the cleanliness of your restroom has nothing to do with a wet towel, and regardless of what you think, any room that has ever had running water has mold and mildew in it. Also, everything in your restroom has fecal matter on it. These are facts. You can spin away your unsanitariness any way you like, but it doesn't change the fact what you are doing is nasty.

Is that true if you always flush the toilet with the cover down?

defies all things rational? Isn't it absolutely rational that running the fan helps deal with moisture? That if you don't already have mold and mildew growing in your bathroom, it's easier to keep them out by being diligent?

No, my towels don't get a mildew smell. Yes, I'm extremely sensitive to the smell. In fact, if I sometimes forget to move my clothes from the washer to the dryer immediately, I will wash them again because they have a faint smell of mildew.

You seem to think that the way you've experienced everything is the only way that's possible. Guess what.. different things happen. Maybe living in Houston (if you're there) is more humid? I can't remember if that had any effect on something like this--I haven't lived there since high school and never had to think about something like this. Just one possibility that could make things different..

Okay, so how do you keep your kitchen free of mold and mildew then?

You don't keep them free of mold and mildew. It is impossible. You can clean what you see, but you cannot clean it all. Any room that has ever had running water has mold in it. All that you can do is keep it from becoming a problem. You cannot keep it from being there. It isn't a big deal, as we all have it. I was just pointing out to you that there is mold there regardless of how new your house is or how often you clean it.

To the guy asking about the fecal matter. Even if you close the lid when you flush, there is fecal matter there. When you blast on the toilet, you are releasing it in the air. Again, not that big a deal as we all have it, just seems nasty when you know about. It also doesn't hurt to keep your toothbrush put away after you learn this. Your own is one thing I guess, but it just doesn't seem right to brush with someone else's after they use your restroom.

    Wow, Im pretty shocked...

I think many of you need to invest in 1 or 2 additional towels.

I use a new towel every 1 or 2 washes.

If you are using it for more than 4 washes, thats pretty disgusting.

When I shared a bathroom I used a new towel everyday, I don't like the idea of drying off with something that someone potentially was also using...maybe that's weird.

With my own bathroom I change towels every 3 days or so.

I honestly don't know when I change ours...a few weeks, maybe more...I change it when i feel like it. I can definitely be a germaphobe...but jeez, they're my germs so what does it matter? I still feel and smell fresh and clean whether I use a towel a day old or a week old.

how do you feel about the "you're clean when you get out of the shower and use the towel" argument? Do you think that's not true? Just curious since you're so adamant..

Its a waste of water to launder a new towel everyday. A towel is meant to dry you off, not aid in the cleaning. If you're towel smells bad enough to need a changing daily, you should really take a look at how you bathe. Consider a loofa or brush.

If I didnt switch everyday my wife would shoot me, besides the fact that i just think that is the norm, since I grew up like that.

We have about 10-12 towels and just wash them once we get a good amount of dirty towels.

Only in America, would you find someone changing a towel everyday. What a waste.

Bamboo towels are naturally mildew resistant.
