Thought this was interesting - listing how NBA teams are built whether through drafts, free agency and trades.

Rockets are the only balanced team with equal number of players drafted, traded for, and signed via free agency. Also, they built a contender without having a single draft pick in the top 10, no other team can claim that achievement. Wheel and deal all the way baby!

Morey is gawd. Most balanced roster foundation in the NBA. This indicates Morey isn't just good at drafting or just good at trading or just good at FA. He can do all 3 baby. Proud of the organization to build a contender without drafting a star after a losing season like all the other contenders. GSW, LAC, CLE, OKC, SAS are all products of high draft picks. HOU is a product of good draft picks in the mid to late first round & second round. Amazing.

They list Kobe as drafted. He was technically traded.

The Nets and Sixers are just as balanced. When 4 or the most important players on your team came bob free agency or trades, I would assume more emphasis (or success) is from there.

If they broke down where something like the top 8 players in a rotation came from it might be more telling.

Most interesting is Chicago. Lots of quality talent drafted and NONE through trade!

That's my point. Looking at the list and seeing a bunch of players in all three categories does not make Morey a great GM.

What's most impressive to me, looking at the Rockets, is the quality of guys in all three groups, especially the trading group. Who can beat that list of guys acquired via trade?

IMO the Grizzlies have the best case.

Seems like the teams that build entirely around free agency (Lakers, Knicks, Kings, Pistons, Mavs) tend to be the ones who fare the worse.

There is nothing wrong going the way GSW, LAC, CLE, OKC, SAS went....

Except for LAC GSW, CLE, OKC, SAS all went to the Finals and some won championships.

Haha I'd say he's mediocre at FA. Not the best at attracting FA as he's definitely been unsuccessful in the past with Bosh, Aldridge, Dwight, and Smith. Of course, he ended up getting Dwight and Smith later on, so he's not too bad. But I think he's one of the best at making small deals that end up paying dividends for us later on. He's decent at drafting, but at this point, our draft picks will never really contribute given our contender status. But he defintely knows how to finds gems here and there

Yeah that's a good point. It depends on what you really want as a fan. I'm happy that we never had a bad season to watch from the Rockets. LAC, GSW, and CLE had to suffer for a really long time. OKC was horrible for a stretch, but they also have the SEA past which was great. I'm proud of the organization

Since when did trading for Harden and signing Dwight Howard count as mediocre? Only way you could argue that is you're trolling or just stupid.
