Obviously we're going to see more before we have to make this call, but the question is based on y'alls present day analysis of his trajectory. Also, there is the matter of how much you believe in him, personally, and the Rockets ability to continue to provide the needed structure. Personally, I see the progress on all fronts as remarkable so far.

    I'm runnin with 14-17.

Whatever it is, I'm assuming we get a bit of a discount, due to our...built in advantages, and the inherent risk.

9-10 million was my vote. He’s going to be lucky to get that from anyone.

That’s the max IMO based on my belief that teams are unwilling to dish that kind of money out to a young man who’s had his fair share of problems. More recently, storming out at half. That’s unacceptable in the NBA.

We still have him for another season before he’s an RFA so he’s got a little time to clean up his act. Rockets in a good spot to retain him if they want and probably won’t get outbid. He’ll be 23 and if he signs a 3-4 year deal he can reup for a massive raise if he exceeds expectations.

I don't care as long as management does what is right by the Rockets....at 21 years old, he is developing just fine.

Give him a 4 year, $40 million contract with a player option in the 4th. If he makes the leap we have him on a cheap deal for the next 3 years and will pay the market rate when he opts out. I have faith that he'll be, at worst, a solid scorer/spark plug coming off the bench and those guys are worth around $8-10 million a year.

KPJ my favorite player on the team & I’ll die defending him, but after the leaving at halftime, rockets should give him a very solid 3 year deal with the third being team option. I’d even give him 20-24mil to show we want him snd believe in him if he continues to progress, but I wouldn’t give him no 3 or 4 year deal. Let him know if he can become become a real leader on this team snd behave that he will get his money after a few more years of good behavior snd production

He'll go to restricted free agency and the Rockets will match if it's a team friendly contract. I voted 7-8 per.

That's also fair. Part of me don't think he'll take a 2-3 year deal unless it's for something like $14-16 million per year. But of course I could be totally wrong.

    that's like $17.5 per ...:D

Dejounte Murray is in that $15-17m range. (5th-6th year player)
Darius (#5th draft pick) in KPJ's draft class still on that sweet rookie deal: $7-11 m.

    ---
$7-9 million is maybe OK, but I fear Stone might overpay.

Money just keeps going up. I'm fine with giving him 15 per year and nothing more.

Guards around the league in the 15-20m range. This year, then future years.

    Buddy Hield, $22.5m, $20.5, $18.6, (UFA)
    Fred VanVleet, $19.7m, $21,3, $22.8,
    Gary Harris, $20m, (UFA)
    Zach LaVine, $19.5m, (UFA)
    Terry Rozier, $17.9m
    Eric Gordon, $18.2m, $19.6, $20.9, (UFA)
    Joe Harris, $17.3, $18.6, $19.9, (UFA)
    Bogdanovic, $18m, $18, $18, (UFA)
    Tim Hardaway Jr. $21.3m, $19.6, $17.9, $16.2 (UFA)
    Caris LeVert, $17.5m, $18.8 (UFA)
    Eric Bledsoe, $18.1m, $19.4 (UFA)
    Dejounte Murray, $15.4, $16.6, 17.7 (UFA)

Most of these guards are late 20's to early 30's (6-11 year vets). In their prime, some maybe exiting out of it the prime by next contract.

If you're a playoff team, looking to win now (this year and next year), for the same money, and everyone on the list is healthy, would you take them or KPJ.

IF he let's us frontload a long term contract I'd be fine with like a 70/4 where he gets around 20M in the first year and around 10M in the 4th. No free agents will come here till we're good anyway so he can have his money while we're bad and become great value when we need it.

He's an average or slightly below average player overall. He also has improved of late, has solid potential, but has a history of past issues and has not fulfilled that potential or trended towards it consistently yet.

    KPJ's numbers for 2022:
    https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/porteke02.html

    League averages for 2022:
    https://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_stats_per_poss.html

I would give him a little below league average salary for a point guard so maybe 7-10 million I believe (it may have changed) or less, he can have a shorter deal if he likes to get more once he's consistently proven himself.

I like his passion, tools for a point guard and potential but feelings aside, logically he's replaceable (as are others on a losing team) until proven otherwise. To get the bag, I would need him to finally reach his potential with consistent trends in improvement, which hasn't happened yet in three years.

Lol I meant like 20mil per year. If he can average 18+/7 I’ll pay him that much to be a starting point guard

My gut tells me whatever they offer him will not be what he thinks he is worth.

I hope I am wrong but I don't see him giving the Rockets any real discounts.
