I got like 1,137 something back. Most went to savings but $300 of it went to buying like 20 or so obscure Miles Davis CDs, so I can say that I own about every important album he did.:D

We sell Miles Davis - "The Birth of Cool" at my work for like $4.99 or something. I read it, and it reminded me of Billy Madison, and I laughed.:D

Had to pay $169. This is the first year I have had to pay, but I'm buying a house this year, so I don't expect to have to pay in 2006.

Gotta love NYC's additional city and state taxes. I spent a fair amount of time working there this past year and got hit up by those leeches. Fortunately my company makes me whole for state taxes over and above what I'd pay in Texas.

Got back $1,100. Most went into savings. Some went towards a tax writeoff for next year...a brand new Epiphone Zephyr Blues Deluxe (looks just like this...natural wood, black P90 pickups and black pickguard, and gold hardware):

I paid last years property taxes in January, and I will be paying this years property taxes before the end of the year, so next year's refund should be a nice one.

Am I getting this right? You can write-off guitar gear? How much do you have to perform/make to qualify for that?

Still haven't filed my return yet!! Just got my K-1 back from our accountant yesterday.

    I hate tax time.

Home ownership is the best tax relief around.

I wrote off $20K in income in my first year of home ownership.

dang, Swoly, how the heck do you get a 6100 refund? You must've been overpaying quite a bit.

I got a 2k refund, but that's b/c I just finished college and started working in June. That means I was paying for a higher tax bracket, although I only made 1/2 a year salary.

went straight to the house principal

About 2 G's (thank you education credits), spent it on books, a trip to Vegas, a trip to Phoenix, and the rest is hanging out in the bank account until I move this summer.

On the other hand, when you retire, you will have to pay taxes on the money you take out of your traditional IRA. You pay the tax in advance on a Roth IRA, so when you retire, the money that comes out of your Roth IRA is tax free.

I belive Roth or traditional IRA depend on your situation, you need to talk to a financial adviser to find out what is best for you. I belive for me Roth is best, and my financial adviser agree.
