I would rather rockets to match what SA is doing and be financially responsible while being competitive. in other words, stay as they are. over spending gets the fans excited; but aren't always the best way to improve the team.
Overall I agree, which is why Morey is doing such a great job. But who can over look what Boston did last year to win the championship after not even being in the playoffs the year before? With what Boston did, and their current salary, how many more years will they be contenders? That's why I said what is it worth! How much should he spend? Do we want to just compete, or are titles more important than another 5 to 10 million dollars that could be spent on the right players to add?
Like we would be here on this site if we knew what a millionaire should do with their money.............
I hope your family is surviving on Top Ramen. Why should Les care what anyone with your kind of attitude thinks?
How successful have teams following the Boston salary cap way vs the San Antonio salary management way, since the luxury tax has been implemented. 05-06 Knicks ($37.2), Mavs ($17.3), Magic ($7.8), Pacers ($4.7), Grizzlies ($3.7), Spurs ($0.9) 06-07 Knicks ($45.1), Mavs ($7.2), Nuggets ($2.0), T-Wolves ($1.0), Spurs ($0.2) 07-08 Knicks ($19.7), Mavs ($19.6), Cavs ($14.0), Nuggets ($13.6), Heat ($8.3), Celtics ($8.2), Lakers ($5.1), Suns ($3.9) All these teams have been very limited in their moves, after they went over the salary cap.(no lux tax paid from 02-04, because of BRI threshold was not triggered) Most of the teams that have the NBA championship got the most of out the luxury tax. They were right at the luxury tax. The teams that failed were severely under the tax threshold(no personnel) or severely over the cap and handicapped(Dallas waived Finley for luxury tax amnesty, overpaid for Croshere, Cavs surrounding Lebron with average talent, Knicks full of bloated contracts and can barely trade them). Pistons were able to identify value and had the financial flexiblity(not handicaped by bloated contracts like Finley, Marbury that nobody wants) to go after it. 02-03 Spurs 03-04 Pistons 04-05 Spurs 05-06 Heat(1.7 mil below) 06-07 Spurs(0.2 mil over) 07-08 Celtics(8.2 mil over) Of the 6 previous championship winners with the luxury tax implementation, only 1 team has won by going over the cap by more than 2-3 mil. If we take out the Spurs, the other two teams were both below the threshold.
Did I mention that Boston is the ONLY team to win that way? ;-) No other team has gotten that method to work. The Mavericks was close, but still lost to a better managed team.
You make some very excellent points, which is why I started the thread...to see what other's opinions were. So in the end, I think Morey is doing a fantastic job and I am not complaining about the money Les is spending. But my questions still remain: How much should he be "willing" to go over it to get the final piece if necessary (whether we think it is Landry or someone else); and who should we be pursuing other than our unsigned current players that might put us over (obviously out of who is realistically available.)
You can't have any of my money..but you can spend what little you have left to buy some more instincts!
