I never got picked to be PreCheck...so I ended up paying the $85. It was well worth it. Keeping my jacket, shoes and belt on = amazing.

I am A-List on southwest, and Silver on Delta. Also got Gold at Hilton.

The pre-check and my Delta status helps keep me sane while traveling. Also, GOES when coming home after an International trip.

If you travel regularly, there might be no better value for anything ever than PreCheck. $85 for 5 years of skipping lines, not having to disrobe and not having to unpack while you go through security.

This post makes me sad. What has the world come to that people are paying money for the privilege of wearing their own clothes, and being happy about it?

    It really is pathetic.

Imagine standing there in a suit with your laptop in the backpack and your carry on..

    now take off your..

    tray 1:
    jacket
    belt
    shoes

    tray 2:
    laptop out of bag

    tray 3:
    liquids out of carry on

    small tray: phone/wallet

    + backpack

    + carry on

Now watch 20 others do this in front of you..:)

the best are the ones who decided to wear any item they have with metal in there..

don't get me started on the boarding and carry on dilemma once you get to the gate. :)

I've done similar travel/work situations. If they pay for an "Extended Stay America" type hotel where you have a kitchen makes it a bit better since I like to cook meals versus always going to a restaurant. One way to view the "being away from home/family is that most jobs requiring commutes mean you are only home between 7pm and 7am and much of that time you are asleep. Also, the extended stay america type places don't really cost more than your normal hotel for longer stays.

One one job I would have to stay for two week chunks. Then you have to have extended stay setups. Harder to be away weekends... I always made myself go on day trips to go to visit tourist things (partly to be around people), but on occasion I would go to malls or movies to get myself out of that small hotel room. I also found a church I liked (Timberlake Church in Redmond).

If I were in charge of the airlines....

    Checked baggage would be free.
Carry on baggage (excluding briefcase and purse) would cost money.

I think most people a. don't want to wait for their carry on (especially if their connection is tight) and b. think there's always room for their carry on.

you are the last one to board..no there's no space for your skis!

I am fortunate to fly Delta 99% of the time, so I get two free bags, plus they tag my bags so they come out in the first wave so I do not mind checking my bags. I can't remember the last time I brought a suitcase on board.

If you're based out of Houston (assuming), why is your airline of choice Delta? Their rewards program is sub-par. Why not go with United?

I like flying SW...but I have to agree. The people that end up with C60, board and then are surprised/pissed that they have to sit in a middle seat and walk up and down the aisle hoping that someone will actually move for them.

I've been spoiled by being A-List Preferred.

Yeah but if you're in a famous boy band like me, traveling is part of the job.

If you are single, something like this isnt a big deal...But with time, commitments, relationships...constant travel via air is hell.
If you do decide to do this anyway, try requesting as much as you can...ie. get 2 month vacation time, 23% salary increase, company car rentals/gas/hotel accommodation.
