How much are lower level season tickets? Plus enough money for 123 beers. And that's not a random number either, do the math genius. I drink in moderation at games.

1500 a month for a mortgage doesn't get you much anymore.

I've just within the last year started making what I consider good money (just a tad under 200k). I've spent the majority of it on paying off old debt, recouping from a divorce, and now buying a house. While I'm not swimming in savings and everything, I'm not doing bad. After we get into the house (mid March/early April) and get everything straight I should have a much better idea of how comfortable we can be. I feel that we can live comfortably on this income. We should easily be able to pay all of our bills, save quite a bit for emergencies and retirement, and still be able to pretty much be able to have and do (travel?) whatever ever we want.

I can't begin to express how blessed I feel I have been in the last year. My career has really done well and I've found an amazing woman that exceeds all of my expectations. It is just very difficult to not keep looking over my shoulder. I am even hesitant to make this post because I still keep expecting everything to blow up.

I think that is why I get so pissed off (D&D forum stuff) about certain subjects about giving people shortcuts when they don't want to put in the effort themselves and/or they don't want to earn what they want. I know what it is like to be poor and to constantly either **** things up by being stupid or just getting a bad break. I know what it is like to have to pick yourself up by the bootstraps and keep going even when things seem like they can't get any worse but then they do. Perhaps because I have been through all of that I should be a little more compassionate instead of a d******d but it's difficult. I like to think that I'm a nice guy and that everyone else is a d******d but that **** just ain't the truth. But I'm trying, Ringo. I'm trying real hard to be the nice guy.

Do you guys realize that the median income for an entire family is around 45K in the US?

You guys are crazy spenders.

Seriously, try counseling people who make 24K a year for a living and are behind on mortgage payments. It's possible to live and get your budget in order for that type of life.

What really hasn't been defined is what's comfortable. I'm able to manage and save off of 35K a year (after taxes) and I'm on the low end of the totem poll with a stay at home mom and baby. We rent in a nice area and are not behind on any bills or have any credit debt.

Per month I can usually get people's expenses down to below their income if they are willing to work for it and quit eating Wendy's everyday for lunch.

I would be comfortable if the money that I made can provide me with daily food, housing and other NEEDS.

However, I would not be satisfy until I open my own business, and gaining respect and reputation around the world.

I should clarify-my house and cars are paid for. I do not have any debt and carry a zero balance on credit cards-pay them off every month when we use them. My son is grown. So single - I could get by on less than 40k at this stage of life just fine. 40 k single -comfortable. Married- 100k per year comfortable.

I think it might even be lower than that. Which makes me wonder why I am spending so much each month, it seems like I really do not buy much at all.

Yes it is, and I don't think they are hearing you!

The question is "how much money do you have to make to have a comfortable living"?

And that depends on where you are regarding a few variables...

    1. Do you have any kids?
    2. If you are married, does your wife work or do you support her?
    3. What is your level of debt (including, but not limited to, mortgage, auto loans, credit cards, alimony & child support)?
    4. Where do you live?

If you have 5 kids, a stay at home wife, and $200,000 in debt, and live in New York City, you are going to need alot more money to "live comfortably" than someone who has zero kids, a wife that works, zero debt, and lives in Butte Montana.

    Personally, I'm doing fine!

I read a survey that said families once they cracked the $72K level starting feeling that they had enough money to get by. Median family income is closer to $45K.

As for myself, my family is well past the $72K and I don't know what those other people were thinking.

8% of the world owns a car. congratulations..if you own a car, to most of the world, you're rich.

much of the world lives on less than $2 a day.

over 1 billion people don't have access to clean water today. about 3 billion don't have sanitation.

Americans' definition of comfortable is the definition of the wealthiest group of people in the history of the world. I'm not trying to make you feel guilty. But chances are...if you live in the US....you are rich by any other standard.

It seems no matter how much a person makes they quite often raise their definition of comfortable living based on their current salary. Most people find a way to live paycheck to paycheck.

I own my own IT consulting company that specializes in software integration and delivery. Within the last year I solidified a contract that I have had for a while now (and at an increased bill rate) so that I am the sole provider of application automation support for their corporation worldnwide. I also picked up another client within the last 7-8 months that is open ended and long term. While this one doesn't bring in nearly as much money, it is very stable.

It's definitely work and I have the occasional long night but most of the time it isn't that bad.

How much is the cost of living in Austin compared to other Texas cities?

When I find a good job with a degree in my hand (not necessarily the first job I get, but later down the road), hopefully I'm making at least 50-60K. If I add roughly the same for my future husband, thats anywhere from 100-120K. We'll need to factor in a kid (maybe not yet), house payments, all bills, food and gas, and all other grown-uppy costs. The only other things I'd want would be high thread count sheets and NBA League Pass. And a trip to a nice restaurant for steak once a month.
